Point Rental Question

Hello,

I'm new here to this DVC stuff. I'm looking to rent points for a weeks stay at *** in ****** 2009. I know where to look for the points and the different web-sites that offer the service but my question is on the points themselves.

1. Are points good for all resorts?
2. (kinda same question) If someone's home resort is somewhere other than ***, can I use those points?
3. I need about *** points for my stay in a Villa, is it possible or wise to rent points from different people to make that amount - like (edited number) some from one person and (edited number) some from another?

Hopefully you have read the stickies at the top of the rent trade board. That will answer alomost every question you could ask.

You will have NO control over the reservation until the day you check in. You are actually renting a reservation from a member and only they have any control over it. If you can find someone with enough points to make the entire reservation that would be your best bet. Then you are dealing with only one person rather than several. You need to work out an agreement with that person that will suit both of you as you are talking a large number of points.

If the person owns points other than OKW the reservation cannot be made until 7 months from the date of check in. Points can be used for any resort at the 7 month or less mark.
If you are looking for a grand villa you may have a problem at the 7 month mark and would be better trying to find someone with OKW points who can book now.

Thank you very much! There is so much information - quite a steep learning curve with this stuff, but I'm starting to understand how it all works. Everything you wrote makes sense and fits with how I "thought" it works - it was good to hear it from an verteran. I will post looking for all the points from a OKW owner. Don't want to wait and get shut-out - we do need the 3 bedroom.

as the OP said, you aren't technically renting "points" - you are renting a reservation. member services won't speak to you, so the points themselves won't do you any good.

while it is possible to rent 5 nights from one DVC member and the next 3 nights from another DVC member, you would be unable to guarantee that you wouldn't have to move to a different GV as the reservations were made separately.

OTOH, it may already be too late to rent a GV at *** as they tend to be booked 10-11 months in advance.

Hello sanman33, and welcome to the DIS and DVC Boards.

Just a note, the posts above were edited to remove resort and point specific information. We certainly allow generic questions about renting, and are happy to help, but we don't want anything on the board that could be construed as being specific enough to actually be considered enough info to initiate a rental transaction, except on the Rent/Trade board.

If you can't get a Grand Villa and this is a multi family trip (i.e. your parents, your sister in law and family - something like that) you may find multiple rooms to be a better choice for family harmony in the end anyway. Grand Villas are very nice, but too much togetherness on vacation is not always for the best.....
