As someone looking to rent on the rent/transfer board I see a lot of “use year”. It looks like sometimes people are renting and transferring point with 2021 use year. I’m slightly confused. If I am looking to rent in Jan 2023 I have to look for a 2023 use by posting right?

You can get a 2021 points transfer and bank to use in 2022 UY. If Jan 2023 and points are, say, Aug UY...you bank 2021 into 2022 and they can be used to book a resie Aug 1 2022 to July 31 2023....so your Jan 2023 falls in there.

You have to bank though. When you get the points and call in to book with them they can bank and book. Already banked points cannot be transferred.

This is if you are DVC member and get transfer. If you are not and want to rent a reservation that DVC owner makes for you, they can use 2021 points same as above and bank them. But be sure they aren't already banked from 2020 into 2021. Just ask owner if they can make Jan 2023 resie.

Partially correct. Someone can have points in a 2022 UY that would work for a Jan 2023 reservation. That would be true for any UY with 2022 points. However, points that "must be used by" a certain date will expire after that date and cannot be used to make reservations falling beyond that date.

Use year is a DVC term that defines the annual ownership interest a member has in a resort. There are Feb, March, April, June, August, Sep, Oct, and Dec use years. As far as use of points goes:

1. They are available for use for any trip during the use year. For example, an October 2021 use year runs from Oct 1, 2021 to Sep 30, 2022. Thus any trip during that period could use the points in that "Oct 2021" use year.

2. A member can also "bank" points into the next use year and use them in that next use year. Thus, someone with an Oct use year could bank Oct 2021 use year points into the Oct 2022 use year and use those "Oct 2021" points for a trip that takes place anytime between Oct 1, 2022 and Sep 30, 2023.

3. A member can also transfer points to another member who can then use them for future trips similar to the way the transfering member could use them. Thus, a member could receive from another member Oct 2021 use year points and then use them for a trip that occurs between Oct 1, 2021 to Sep 30, 2022, or bank them and use them for a trip that occurs between Oct 1, 2022 and Sep 30, 2023.

Thus, for a Jan 2023 trip, there could be available 2021 points from any 2021 use year month that have been banked into the 2022 use year.
