I need to get a transfer. Should I get a certain resort of will they turn into my resort anyways? Also how does a transfer work after I find some to get them from. Thanks

Tranferred points are supposed to retain their original resort and UY status. Supposedly, Disney has "fixed" the point morphing problem to keep them from assuming the same status as transfer receiving person's contract. There is some question as to how well Disney has actually fixed that, but I wouldn't count on a transfer of points to morph into your home resort points and UY.

If you need the points to make an 11 month reservation with home resort advantage, find another member with the same resort as you to transfer to you.

Well I am figuring that if its fixed then I would get something other then my home resorts, just because. If its not then I would just take anything. I just need to know if I need to have rescrictions on who I get them from. (Exp.date etc)I don't need the points but friends of mine won't let me get them a room again so they are paying for some of the points. I figured I would just get more points with that money. :)

It is better but still happens both in terms of use year and home resort. You can force both of these areas but you'd lose the ability to call day by day with those points because they must be tracked manually which takes a couple of days.

Ok so really I can just get what ever resort because it really doesn't matter. What about expiration date?

The problem you have is it happens some times and doesn't others and you won't truly know until you get the points where they stand. They are BETTER about the points expiration (UY) than the home resort overall. The bottom line is if you want a certain home resort at 11 months out, you should make sure you have points at that resort. But the problem is if you transfer in points from high demand resorts and want to reserve something you must call 11 months out day by day, you'll still likely lose out using transferred points.

It's fixed. :-)

We can see exactly how many points ar transferred in, home resort and expiration date. The system will not allow us to use them unless everything is in order.

Oh happy days!

I especially like "the system will not allow" part.

It was released in the spring. :-)
I know of several instances where the fix has not worked within the last few months both from a use year standpoint and home resort standpoint but good to know it should at least be better.

Yes, expiration date matters. You should know completely what it is you are getting before you commit. You don't want points that only have a month or two left before expiration... unless of course you will immediately use those points.... which can be a real good buy. I have never been rentor or renter, but I would think that if you look for points for a real near term vacation that you could get a real good deal with someone who's points will expire soon.

Now, that is only if there someone needing to dump points when you are looking to get some. It's a gamble, but if you have the flexibility, you are in the driver's seat.

So if you transfer points to another person and they only have 2 months left - they retain the amount of time they have left when you transfer them and still only have 2 months left?

That is the way it is supposed to work. This is where the problem of point morphing sometimes has reared its ugly head and created profit opportunities for some people. I had some points that expired in 10 days that point morphed and were rented out by an astute person who snatched up such points in transfers and therefore had many months to use them that were not available to me as the original owner as a result of being able to strategically morph points.

Remember that you can Bank transferred points. Member Services told me that UY Banking deadlines don't apply to transferred points. Now, if this has been changed recently, I am not aware of this. MS told me this last year.

Boy, that, too stinks. That, too, is point morphing. The transferee should NEVER have more flexibility with points than the original owner.
