Hello All,

I have lurked over here on the Camping Board for some time now. About 15 years ago, my parents cancelled Christmas, we rented an RV, drove from MA to Orlando, and spent Christmas at FW. It was FANTASTIC! One of my favorite 'World' memories. Now I am 'all grown up', married and have a 4YO. I was thinking I would really like to do this with my family now. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Where would I look to find out where to rent an RV? What are decent prices, etc.

Any and all help and suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks everyone

Debster

PS--Guess it would help, I still live in MA and that is where we would drive from. Unless we should fly to FL, and rent something there. Oops, guess that's another question.

Thanks again

Renting a motor home will be a nightmare financially. Just so you know they will charge per mile put on the vehicle. So really consider a travel trailer, but that means you have to have the vehicle to pull it and have a hitch put on the vehicle if the trailer is of any weight or size, hitch about $500 or so. Pop up is the best way to go, but will require more set up on your part, but maybe getting away with just a ball on back of truck or van. Start calling around now and find out how much it will run you before you tell the kids. We just decided to buy the darn thing and are going anyways. But at least it is an investment, we bought used so most of the depreciation is over. When we first got married we bought one that slept 5 a year old travel trailer and paid only $135 a month. When it was time to sell 3 years later we actually sold it for only $500 less than we paid. Of course we paid interest on it, but we saved a lot on many vacations instead of hotels.

Because of all of the above listed issues, I would probably rent from somewhere in Florida. I know there are places there, but I don't know where they are. You could either fly and rent a motor home, or you could get a hitch put on your car, drive down, and rent either a travel trailer or pop-up. Pop-ups are much easier to tow. You didn't say what kind of car you have, but many will tow a pop-up pretty easily.

An additional benefit of buying an RV is that you can deduct the interst as a second mortgage as long as it has a toilet built in. If you're interested in pop-ups, you can get them for really cheap, even if you buy new.

You could drive or fly down and stay in a FW cabin. You still have all the campground amenities but not the additional expense of just renting.

We had looked into the same thing. We considered even flying and then renting there but the cost was too much. If you're still interested, try rvamerica.com or cruiseamerica.com. we ended up flying and staying in the cabins which we have done three times now and LOVE it. The best part is having your own place, kitchen, etc. and maid service to boot! You still get that great Fort Wilderness atmosphere and all the perks of being on disney property. Have fun whatever you decide!
