Point Charts?

When do point charts usually come out? I had assumed they would come out a couple months before the new year. Like maybe the 2003 point charts would come out November 2002, but after I thought about it this would not make sense for the 11 month Window. In order to book January 2003, the 2003 point charts would have to be out by February 2002, is that right?

The 2003 charts for DVC resorts are already out. They are available on the members website and in the guidebook sent out last fall.

Point charts for the other exchange programs are not yet available for 2003, but are for 2002.

Thanks Doc, that is reassuring. I plan to purchase points at BCV and I am already planning my 2003 vacation so I was hoping that they release points charts fairly early. I guess I will find out in a couple of weeks what the points are for BCV. I am assuming they are the same as VWL but the last point chart I received was for 2002 and I don't have access to the members only site yet! Thanks again!

Except for the specific dates for Thanksgiving and Easter, all points are the same for 2003 at the DVC resorts, so your old charts are still worthwhile. Point charts for BCV should be available as soon as sales begin- reportedly on February 3.

Suddenly I'm nervous here-I was led to believe by the salesman that points at DVC resorts don't change from year-to-year, that only some dates might as holidays change (like Easter, the exact date of Thanksgiving, etc.) Am I mistaken now?

Point requirements can change! DVC is structured so that the total points at a given resort cannot change- but the required points can be reallocated. If some nites are increased- others must be decreased- thus keeping the total needed for the year stable.

In practice, points have been changed only once- at OKW in 1996. Don't assume they can't be changed however. In '96 a few weekends were lowered and a few weeknights were raised. Not all seasons were affected, but some members had to restructure their point needs. (We added on!)

While point needs may be changed, I don't expect any in the foreseeable future.
