Point Charts for AKL

I happened to be down in FL the day of the press release and was told by a sales guide at the BWV model and my guide that the expiration would be 2057.

Telephoned my guide yesterday and was told 3 years longer than SSR and that point chart will be out in the spring.

My guide and her boss must be the only 2 uninformed guides at Disney. I asked again yesterday, and was told once again "we don't know yet, and I just got out of a meeting with my boss and he doesn't know anything yet either". :confused3

The same as SSR or 50 years or so, neither would surprise me. Still if it's different than SSR, that's a good thing for owners in the long run as it means DVC will keep going much longer and it also increases the chances of other resorts down the road. And if AKL were the last one and had a later use year, it would put even BCV to shame for resale down the line.

Wow, never thought of this before, but they could make the points per night higher, making it more expensive for people to buy in without raising the price per point, and making it more expensive for those of us who own at other DVC's to stay there.

As far as SSR, isnt it kind of in-between BCV, WLV, BWV and OKW?

I disagree. based on the higher points for SSR compared to OKW.

really think that AKV will be higher. or should I say that the savannah views if they do include concierge will be higher. these will be only the hotels rooms they are converting.

can't see a savannah view with concierge going for 12 points. now without the concierge - 12 to 14 points - but with the concierge at least 15 points. studio - adventure season.

We were just at the DVC presentation about 5 days ago (home now--making the final decision to buy tomorrow!) and asked about AKV vs SSR... We were told that:
--the price per point will most likely go up before/as AKV points come up for sale.
--the AKV points would have higher dues because they are adding a new savannah and 14 new species.
--the points/night for AKV would be higher because they would sleep 5 and 9, instead of 4 and 8, and they would have concierge services.

Hope this helps!

3DisneyKids....I think this is a great question that probably deserves its own thread since this one is specifically about AKV point schedules. I was going to start one but since it's your question, thought you might want to go ahead and do that.

I followed up with my ultra-fab guide about this last time we spoke. The general consensus among DVC staff is that from now on, whenever a new DVC resort opens, its end date will be 50 years from its opening date. This is not in writing anywhere at this time, however, it seems as though that is the current thinking. Obviously, they can beging doing this with AKV and then future resorts, and then change back.

We spoke with our guide yesterday before leaving WDW to come home. He said the point schedule is not known at this time, but that more points per unit type and night is almost a given, and that a significant price per point increase was also to be expected.

We're in that group of people that probably wouldn't add on at AKV (VAK?), but would occasionally stay there mid-week, off-season, in a studio, mostly for the novelty of the resort. In our case, spending some extra points for 2-3 nights would be worth it, and really wouldn't affect our overall ability to visit WDW whenever we want. For those folks buying into AK, it could greatly impact on the number of points they'd need to provide the amount of days they allocate for their trips. Certainly their costs, both in purchase and fees would be quite a bit higher than the other DVC home resorts.
If CRV is ever built, IMO, the points/night and the $/point will also be quite high.
Just my (unasked-for) 2 cents, not :stir: .

And I think that is a fair way of doing it. Those who purchased BWV, VWL, and BCV with less than 50 years right from the start seem to be shortchanged. I think it would be a logical way to do things, and probably should have been handled that way from the start.

I can't say that I feel shortchanged for buying VWL with 41 years left and BWV with 39 years left to use....since I made the purchase decision with full knowledge of the duration.

For my age, the additional 10 years wouldn't matter. And who knows if my kids would want to take on the dues of a 40 year old resort?

In any event, I agree with Dean that the different ending times is a good sign that Disney is committing to DVC for a longer period. And again, that can only be good as they continue to want to make membership an attractive thing. I had always feared that the perks would dry up if Disney ever quit building and selling new DVC resorts.
