Let me see if I am understaning this correctly. For example, I can stay at AKL in a SV view 1 bedroom room during Magic Season for Sun-Thur for 30 points. Would I be able to add on a Fri-Sat stay the next night for 59 points? That would beat the total weekly point value of 268. Is this done? Against the rules? Would I have to transfer rooms to do this?
Thanks. I am new and we are thinking about what kinds of points we would need to purchase.

the weekly total is merely the sum of 7 nights in a row. friday and saturday are 59 pts each.

edited to add: there is no requirement to stay 7 nights in a row with DVC. you can stay for just the 6 nights, or just the 5 weeknights or just a single night.

Even adding the two Friday and Saturday nights the total comes to 148, which is a lot less than the weekly sum of 268. The question is do they allow it?

Yes, I was looking at the 2009 point chart. I thought the points were supposed to stay the same?

I swear, they need a college course to understand DVC!

there's no magic to it. the weekly cost merely adds up the 7 nights for you.

150 = 5 weeknights times 30 pts per night
118 = 2 weekend nts times 59 pts per nt

268

they do stay the same for the resort as a whole for the entire year. they cannot raise point costs across the board but any given reservation may wind up being more or less expensive in the future. (they can make early december more expensive so long as they make february less expensive, for example - or make weeknights more expensive so long as they reduce weekend nights...and so on.)

Weekday nights in a SV room for Magic Season in 2009 are 30 points per night. Weekend nights are 59 points per night. So the cost of five weekday nights is 150 points, the cost of the two weekend nights is 118 points for a grand total of 268 points for seven consecutive nights. The weekly rate is just doing the math for you, in the event you want to book a full seven nights.

ETA: For 2010, the weekly rate for a 1BR SV in Magic Season will be 270 points. The weeknight rate will go up to 34 pts/night but the weekend rate is going down to 50 pts/night so 5 x 34 = 170, 2 x 50 = 100, for a total of 270 pts for a full seven nights.

Sunday through Thursday nights are 30 points each or 150 points for the five nights. Add the 118 for Sat and Sun and you get 268.

Unless I'm missing something:
5 x 30=150 (5 weekday nights)
2 x 59=118 (2 weekend night)
Total=268

Okay, I was confused and thought the points were not per night but per total length of stay. I am so confused reading through UY and points charts that after a while it gets to you. I told my husband we should have taken the tour! But no, he said they would be too pushy.

However I am finding out more information here than I ever dreamed I would!

it's a lot to learn.

definitely take your time and keep scanning through threads that look the least bit interesting and feel free to keep asking questions. it starts to make sense eventually. :)

I think they have gotten a little pushier in the last few years, but, still, no where as pushy as any other timeshare out there. They do make an offer that you need to accept or not before X many days, but usually you can get other offers later on as well.
