Point and Shoot Tips?

I have a Canon Power Shot Point and Shoot 4 mega pixel camera. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for us self proclaimes professionals! I was wondering about tips for parades, fireworks and any other tips that you have. I know there is a special thread for the fireworks and parades --- but they seem to all be about "fancy" cameras and I just need some general tips! Thanks a lot!

I think that most of the tips on this thread are applicable to any type of camera.
