Point and Shoot Recommendations

I am looking for a new point and shoot camera after my old one died in a storm at Disney World My price range is $175 or less. I don't need anything fancy; I just want good quality photos. So far I've looked at the Nikon CoolPix P310 and the Canon PowerShot A2400. Any suggestions?

I have a Coolpix P310, I really like it. I got a reburbed one from Adorama, gave it to my DD and ended up buying another, I think the 2nd one was from Cameta. I have an old Canon p&s that I really like too, I don't know anything about the A2400, though.

The Nikon P series are their good cameras.
The P310 is not a Canon s110 competitor because the P310 has a smaller sensor. But if the s100/s110 is out of your budget, the p310 looks attractive with its fast lens.

The Canon A series used to be good, 5+ years ago, but now they are just cheap, stripped down point and shoots with no real phhotographically redeeming features (none of the PASM modes, very little user control options)...

Fuji does a nice job with affordable Point and Shoots but I don't keep track of their models.

The 1.8 and the 24mm wide lens is what attracted me to the P310. I saw some night street shots on a website taken with it and I bought one sight unseen. I looked at the Canon S100/110, but it was more than I wanted to spend.
If you are interested in seeing the photos my DD and I took with it, this is a link to them. The 1st few I had to take off DD's facebook so the exif info isn't there. All handheld on either auto or P mode, no flash except a few indoor, restaurant photos. We were in tourist mode and didn't want to take too much time playing around. In the auto scene mode the camera actually chooses the mode it thinks is appropriate. It did pretty well. It might not be dslr quality but for travel snapshots....
The only issue I have noticed is occasionally on the night, street shots, it seemed to take more than a few seconds to write to the card. Another thing which shouldn't be too big of an issue is the flash does not pop up automatically when needed, it will tell you and you have to press a button to pop it up.

Thanks for the advice everyone! My camera decided to come back to life today, but I'll keep these recommendations in mind.

Try the Canon Elph 520 HS. It takes pretty good pictures.
