Pofq...

WE were there at end of May 2008...loved the place (including the food court...small but efficient. Loved the beignets-New Orleans style fried donut/roll) Beautiful landscaping, boat to DTD is really nice. Bus service was good. Mousekeeping rocked (we tipped daily, $2 for two adults...got towel animals twice even though obviously no children in room.) Rooms were not run down. Employees were smiling & helpful at all times. Pool was great, never crowded (even on really hot days)

We've never stayed at POFQ, but we did walk over there when we stayed at POR. The grounds, pool, lobby, etc., looked great!! We did notice that there was not as much variety at their food court as there is at POR. Of course, you can walk from FQ to Riverside in just a few minutes. POFQ also has the boat transportation to and from DTD, which is really convenient, and a very nice ride back and forth.

The pool is large and hardly ever crowded. There are plenty of lifegaurds and they are vigilant. POFQ is our favorite resort. We made the choice to stay there after reading many great reviews and lots of good reports in guide books. We also visited most of the resorts to see if they suited us. POFQ and PO were our favorite places.

We are big French Quarter fans as well.

The resort is small, so it is seems more intimate than other Disney resorts. We noticed attentive lifeguards when we were at the pool.

We also rode the boat to Downtown Disney, which is a nice relaxing ride.

We would definitely stay again.

I would say the opposite of the PP. We did a split stay Polynesian and POR. I would say the Port Orleans is way bigger than say Polynesian or really any of the 3 monorail resorts. I saw benefits to both sides..I enjoyed the atmosphere at the PO. Yes, there are more people, but there is a LOT to do. The rooms were VERY private. Ours was right across from one of the quiet pools, and it was very peaceful.
I thought maybe there were more bugs and wildlife at Port Orleans. I also saw more debris (natural) and smokers and butts. I am a smoker, and I noticed it.
However, I would stay there again. for sure.

You are speaking of the Port Orleans Riverside, the OP is asking about French Quarter-the smaller resort. :) My grand gathering of 13 stayed there in May of 2007 and it was fantastic. My daughter who was three at the time referred to the pool as a water park because of the slide and the water shooting alligators. Really great for families with little ones! Definitely would stay there again.

We stayed there some in April because we wanted to try a moderate-NEVER AGAIN. We we arrived we discovered they had "lost" our reservation, even though we had our reciepts we trip was paid in full. We were then told we could stay for the night but would probably have to move to another resort the next night. We informed them this was unacceptable and after about an hour of this they got us checked in for the night but said we would have to come back in the mourning to finishing sorting things out and get our tickets because we would need to be re entered into the system. Well, we came back to the front desk the next mourning and eventually got things back on track although the hold up caused us to be late for Animal Kingdom breakfast ADR.
Then while at AK went purchased photos to have shipped to the gift shop at our hotel. The next day after visiting another park we came back to our room to see the message light blinking and were informed we had a package dropped off at the gift shop. After going to the gift shop, the lady working there could not find my photos. After complaining how this just added to our POFQ experience thus far a gentleman walked up and informed me earlier that day they gave him my photos and I could have them if I wanted to pick them up later at his room. The gift shop personel never even appologized.
Other than this the only problem was in getting our luggage delivered within the specified time to PoP Century where we spent the rest of our stay and had a wonderful time as usual.

For everything POFQ try going to http://www.portorleans.org/index.htm

Thanks for the website it gave me more insite then the books.

I'm surprised that you've read bad things about POFQ - seems like every WDW site I've ever checked out has it as their top mod choice. I personally love it!

It was in a book...which I forget the name...and it said that the food court was rated C-, mousekeeping was a B, and the rooms were a B-. Hmmm I guess you can't always believe what you read huh?

We have stayed at the FQ on 4 different occasions and have never had a bad experience. Since they re-did the rooms a couple of years ago, they are the nicest decorated moderate rooms in WDW. The size and themeing of the resort is wonderful. The bus service has never been a problem for us, except at park closing time when it is a problem for everyone at every resort. I would encourage you to keep your reservation.

I guess it also depends on what you're comparing to. Perhaps Victoria & Alberts would be an 'A' on their scale and a cheap backstreet burger place would be an 'F', so a "moderate" would really be expected to be in the Bs and Cs area, otherwise why pay more for a deluxe?

The food at POFQ is fine for a food court, perfectly tasty and decently priced for what it is - think of the food courts at the better shopping malls for the basic concept. As long as you're not expecting it to be the Grand Floridian, you'll be fine. And you can always take the 10 minute walk over to Riverside for a table-service meal if you want, or a 15 minute boat ride to Downtown Disney.

Yeah, don't believe everything you read. WDW is one of those places you have to experience it yourself. My experience may not be the same as yours. I love POFQ. It's small and very relaxed. I love that the hot tub is off by itself and failry secluded. The boat to DTD is very relaxing as well and you get to see part of Disney that others don't. POFQ has it's own bus stop at MK in the evening, a huge plus for a resort this small. Have a magical time at my favorite resort.
