I was reading the threads on the resorts board and there is a post regarding the rehab of POFQ. There was a report by someone that OKW might be offered as an alternative resort for those displaced by the closing of POFQ.

So, I thought I'd ask over here where the OKW experts hide out!;)

Does anyone think this is even a remote possibility? I had thought that WDW only held back a small percentage of rooms for their reservations outside of DVC so would there really be rooms available for this type of upgrade?

If you can't tell by my questions, I'm less than thrilled with this idea!;)

I find it hard to imagine that Disney would use a Deluxe/Home Away From Home resort as a sub for a moderate resort.

I hope this is not the case and if it is, I think it's wrong. (Maybe I'll book a room right away then for the POFQ lol and then get it upgraded for free to OKW, lol.)

Anything can happen, but, I would find it surprising. What is with the FQ being redone, I thought they did that in the last couple of years.

probably for people who really want a resort close to DD - but no there contracts stays that only 60 days before is all the outstanding studios are open to WDW reservations. of course lately there have been alot of trading to cruises and the conceirge collection - I think II uses the DVC resorts that it gets. so CRO may have some.

besides - the last time CRO did this - DVC got a bunch of new members!!!!

I suspect that if a POFQ refugee was offered OKW it would be under the same circumstances as the deluxe resorts. I was a CBR refugee in December and was very happy at the Polynesian for only $20 more per night :).

I am surprised that you are not thrilled. There is no comparison between POFQ and OKW, and if they do situate you into OKW, you will see what resort life really is.

I made ressies to stay at POFQ for the first week of May (did not want to borrow from 2003 points). The very next day I learned from this board that the resort was being rehabbed. I was going to wait for CRO's call and pay extra for an upgrade to hopefully a deluxe or home away from home resort, but broke down and borrowed the points. If I didn't have DVC as an alternative I'd would gladly pay the extra money to stay at OKW if it was an option. We must welcome these POFQ refugees: it wasn't their fault that they are being displaced.

Why?They offered the Poly and AKL for the displaced CBR crowd last time around.

Peachgirl,if it is offered you may just end up loving it.I stayed there thinking it wouldn't be so great and it is now one of our favorite places in WDW. Hope everything works out on your trip.:)

True, they did, but, there is a difference between the two. The main one being the mini kitchen.

Here's a link to an article about the rehab. I guess they are doing major changes including redoing the bathrooms. They are going to do the whole thing in stages that will take two years.

Port Orleans Remodel

I find it difficult to believe that one who is going to stay at any of the moderates wouldn't be thrilled to get OKW instead but to each his own. If DVC has rooms available they could offer them.

Sorry, a slight misunderstanding! I'm staying at OKW and I agree there's no comparison!;)

I was just a little surprised that Disney would offer such a huge jump in resorts. I would think at most they'd offer an upgrade to a less expensive deluxe such as WL or AKL.

I'm just thinking of crowds...totally selfish, I know!:)

I could be wrong, but I have not seen anyone post that they have received any offers to upgrade to a Deluxe or OKW either.

All I have seen is the offer to move to another moderate. I am not saying it can't happen because it did with the closing of CBR, but I have not seen any bookings yet.

I have a ressie at POFQ for Dec. and spoke with WDTC yesterday regarding my ressie. She said by the weekend they will be offering upgrades (with increased cost) to the deluxe and home away from home resorts. She did not say OKW or any other resort by name, but I was thinking FW is incuded in the home away from home category. Maybe they'll offer the cabins for upgrades.
