We are visiting Port Orleans French Quarter in September. What building should we request?

We stayed at building 4 which was closet to the only bus stop. The food court and lobby was pretty close by too.

It's really a small resort so I dont think there is a bad building.

The simplest answer to this is to suggest you look at a map of the resort and decide which building looks like it will meet your needs/wants. The best building/location has soooooo many variables and only each guest will know best what works for them so there is no easy way to answer your question.

If there are mobility issues, its always better to request a ground floor room. Rooms with a water view, whether its the river or the swimming pool, will cost a little more than a standard room. If there are small children you may want to be close to the play area, or for older children, close to the arcade. Its things like this you need to think about when you are trying to figure out which location will suit you best.

Here's a copy of the POR/POFQ resort map (POFQ is the bottom portion in kinda grayish purple) http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/port-french.htm. If you have any more questions about rooms after you get an idea how the resort is laid out, come on back and ask.

It depends on what you are looking for. Do you want to be by the pool, the food court, a parking lot, the water? Do you want solititude or to be in the middle of the action.

It's really based on personal preference. As someone else suggested I would look at a map and see what might fit your needs.

I never request a specific building-I request what that building has that I'm looking for such as "close to pool and food court".

Which bldg would you suggest 4 or 5? :)

It depends completely on what you want.

If you want to be closer to the buses, building 4 would probably work best.

If you want to be closer to the pool/laundry and boat dock, building 5 would most likely be the one you would prefer.

Both buildings are equally close to the food court.

Only you know what will work best for your family/friends. Check the link to the map I posted above and you should be able to see which building you would prefer. But remember, although you may request a particular building, there is no guarantee you will be placed there. When your room is assigned, the CM will do their best to accomodate you, but you may not get what you request. For this reason I suggest you only request one, two, or at the most, three things, such as Building 4 close to food court, or Building 5 ground floor, near the pool.

POFQ is so pleasantly compact that it truly doesn't matter.

Like you, I was very concerned about picking the right building. I ended up requesting "near food court and bus," figuring the more general I make it, the better chance I have of getting what I want.

Well, he checked in around 11:00 p.m., and I didn't get what I wanted. As the CM circled my room location on the map, I was very disappointed. I got a room at the very far end of Building 2 (towards the river and Building 1). I didn't ask for a different room, figuring I could always try to change the next day if it was that bad.

So here were my wife and I nd our 6 year old and 4 year old, and I'm expecting this long walk to our room in just about the middle of the night (by kindergartener standards). I was very pleasantly surprised that we got to our room in exactly 2 minutes.

Late at night, after a day of travel, with two little ones in tow, our "far away" room was a 2 MINUTE WALK from the front desk, meaning that it was also a 2 minute walk from the food court.

I decided that my room looked far away when I looked at the map, but it was ridiculously close when I looked at it in real life. I mean, how do you complain about a 2 minute walk?!

Later, I timed the walk from the very far end of Building 1 to the food court -- 3 minutes 20 seconds.

So as you can see, POFQ is so pleasantly compact that exact room location doesn't matter, at least in my opinion.

I only requested high floor for my reservation. Just don't want to on the ground floor with people walking by all the time. I could care less which building they put me in since it's a small resort. I never requested anything at WL either and was always happy with my rooms there. At Pop and Poly I did make requests since they are bigger resorts.

I've stayed in buildings 1 and 3. I paid for a water view, which translates not really close to anything. Though nothing is very far here. I much preferred our building 3 location. Now that the resort is no smoking I'd like to stay in building 4 to be close to the bus stop. I don't tend to visit the food court, pool or hot tub that much. So being close to the bus stop is what is important to me. Like others say, weigh what is important to you and your family and pick that building.

This map may help, it's a bit less cluttered than the full resort version, and easier to see your way around:

But as everyone has said, POFQ is so small that even the very furthest rooms in building 7 are still only 350yds (an easy 5 mins walk) from the main building.

Yes - I have stayed here twice both times third floor and water view...so nice to see the boats go by....and since nothing is really far - I was never tired of walking. Also will say that next time I may ask for a room facing inward toward the very beautiful lawn area. In the morning it is a great place to sit on one of the benches and have a cup of coffee.
