I just learned that the POFQ pool will be closed for refurbishment January through February. I think this really stinks to give such late notice for those of us that might have wanted to change resorts under the circumstances.:sad2:

That is sort of short notice, and it doesn't seem especially bright to have the theme pools at 2 of the 4 moderate resorts closed at the same time! But since POFQ & POR are sister resorts, I suppose there's less impact there than at other resorts, though that could be a very cold walk back to FQ in a wet bathing suit.

Gosh, I almost picked POFQ for my January trip to save money, but opted to splurge and go for WL instead! I would have been pretty mad to have no pool! I actually do swim in January, as I done it many times on prior trips. But that is awfully short notice for those at POFQ. :(

I'm hoping we get to swim a little at POR in January. (Even though I hate being in a swimsuit...haha.) But I hope the POFQ being closed doesn't make the pools at POR more crowded.

Just a sidenote...it's interesting and funny how perspectives are different. For us, staying at a moderate is considered splurging and for others, they stay at moderates to save money. Haha.

We were booked at POFQ but upgraded to WL for the larger beds, and now I'm really glad. Being from Michigan, we don't mind a January swim at Disney, but I wouldn't want a long walk back to our room afterward!

I have a reservation at POFQ in Jan, then I'm switching to BWV. BOTH pools will be unavailable. :confused3 Maybe it's me?!? :rotfl:

Oh, well... Not much I can do.

Oh no!!! Where did you hear this? We will be there Feb.6-13 and my kids are total water rats! My DD was REALLY looking forward to the dragon slide! [We also consider a moderate a splurge!]

OMG this is a 'everything happens for a reason' thing for me. We have dreamed of staying at the POFQ but are booked into Pop due to saving $500. I couldn't come up with another $500 for POFQ. This is our first time to WDW in 8 years, and we are swimmers, no matter what time of year! I can't imagine what I would be feeling if I had worked so hard for this trip to find out my pool was closed....I would probably be sitting here in tears right now.

I feel your pain. I would be quite peeved. Did you try asking for a complimentary ugrade to a deluxe or something for your inconvenience?? It's always worth a try. We make it a point to go back to the resort (POFQ in our case as well) for a swim break so this would be a big hindrance to our plans.

I did a search on this and couldn't find it anywhere. Where did you hear about this? Any one else hear the same info?

we just booked the first week of march at POFQ and were told that the pool would be closed, I have not been able to find anything online but i am going on the word of the CM on the phone

Some friends of our booked through a travel agent and were notified yesterday. I booked myself (same dates- early Feb)and had not seen or heard a thing!

I called last night and the CM said that she knew CBR pool was closed but she had not heard about POFQ and that she would check. A minute later she comes back and says that I am right. The pool will be closed Jan-March and the notice just came out TODAY!

I told her I thought that it was really unfair to give such short notice since all the mods are now booked for our stay Feb 5-12. She said she didn't think 6 weeks (3 for the Jan people) was such short notice.

I booked this in July. Why was the CBR reburbishment announced months ago but no notice on this until 2-3 weeks out? Makes you wonder.

Yeah - I booked in July too! I have a family of 5 but my Mom is going on this trip with us making 2 rooms a necessity[sp?]. I LOVE POR but we've already been there, done that! Oh well, guess we'll back at the same old pool.:confused3

I am glad I didn't book POFQ now...I would have had to switch to CSR. I'm glad I just stayed with POP.

Has anybody heard the start date in January? We are there only one night--I squeezed it in because my kids loved the pool there so much during our last stay, of course.

Will POFQ guests will be able to use the main pool at POR? I think that pool looks like even more fun and my sister is staying at that resort so it isn't a huge inconvenience, I'd just like to warn the kids ahead of time.

Would any of you consider changing over to Riverside as being an upgrade or being compensated for the French Quarter pool being closed? :confused3

POFQ guest can always use the pool at POR and vice versa. The two are sister resorts and share amenities. Have fun swimming with your sis!

I wonder if perhaps a significant problem necessitated a repair not in the original plans? I too think it is odd that they would choose to have both the CBR pool and the POFQ pools down during the same time period.

However, there were big issues with the POFQ pool when we were there in September of this year. None of the problems caused us an issues other than a minor delay of the slide being open and the occasional shut down of the slide. Dh had several conversations at different points with lifeguards and other personnel at the pool and it was mentioned that they had a major leak they could not get under control. Just wondering if this is related?

I am so sorry for those for whom this impacts! We are huge swimmers also and we would hate for the pool to be off limits. I think I would switch to another resort. If mods were full and deluxe not in the budget, I would book a value and add water park options to the tickets. I have not run the numbers, but with two rooms for us and the 4 kids, I would imagine the costs would equal out with the room downgrade and the tickets.

The pool at POFQ will be closed Jan 28-March 15, 2008

We got lucky! We are at POFQ from Jan 19-Jan 27. :cool1: We don't have to try to find a pool to swim in.:cool1: It does stink that they didn't release this information several months ago. :confused3
