Ok...thinking about what I can afford for an upcoming trip....we have always stayed onsite...... but..... thinking about POFQ or POR vs. Swn or Dolphin..... I've visited them all, but trying to imagine staying non disney....I LOVE the S/D location, but wondering if I'll miss that 'magic' at the POFQ... anyone with opinions here? I'd love to hear them!

We have stayed at both many times and do not mind a short weekend stay at the S/D but for longer stays prefer to stay onsite at the POFQ, more Disney feel there

I love FQ. If you are bringing kids I would go there. If adult only I'd go s/d.

S/D: Fancier bedding, better mattress, better location, more (non-Disney) hotel like, Char breakfast.

FQ: Disney atmosphere, dining plan, no resort fee/ no charge for parking, QS, ME.

absolutely LOVE the FQ. It's probably my fav place. Smaller resort, easy walking to everything. fantastic atmosphere, dining plan. AND the best donuts - beignettes - ever!!! I had them every morning (and wondered why I gained weight :rotfl:) Very Disney... very nice rooms, again perfect atmosphere - dual sinks - clean bathrooms, fridge etc. Everything you could need!

I really liked FQ. It's so small and quaint. I did not like the VERY limited food choices though.

I've always wanted to stay at S/D!! I've heard great things about it and LOVE the proximity to things! The only thing that's stopped me is Magic Express. I value that service too much to give it up! :)

We really enjoy the dining plan so for us it wold be POFQ. If you like the deluxe feel and DP doesn't matter, head to the S/D. I love the feel of the S/D area.!!:goodvibes

I just posted this exact same question a few days ago and asked in a poll. Here it is:

Since then, I've checked and they no longer have the nurses discounted rooms for all of my nights, so it looks like I'll be keeping my reservation at POFQ. I was sort of surprised that I felt almost relieved when the discounted rooms were no longer available. Guess it was meant for me to stay at POFQ.

Love the location of the S/D, but think POFQ looks like a wonderful resort. Haven't tried either yet so enjoying hearing everyone's opinions.

thanks for all the opinions! I'll go look at that poll.....maybe I should do a split stay and try both....hmmmmm....:goodvibes

We stayed at POFQ on our first ever visit as a family (it was Port Orleans at that time and the riverside resort was called Dixie Landings !!) and we love it. We have since joined DVC and not stayed at POFQ again, BUT we go back every visit just for the beignettes !!!:goodvibes.....usually more than 1 time during our trip !!

I feel your pain!

I'm going back and forth between S/D and POR for a possible 6th anniversary trip in mid-Dec. My wife and I have not stayed onsite since we were kids. We love Epcot and the Boardwalk area, so I thought S/D would be perfect. But, we also love DTD, and POR looks like a beautiful resort that's truly onsite. Decisions, decisions!

Funny you should ask! DH and I stayed at the Swan back in 2004 and 2005. We loved it! For our anniversary 2 years ago, we stayed at POFQ. We prefer the smaller resorts. POFQ was great too. However, we did go over to the Boardwalk area when we were at Epcot and I really missed being at the Swan. It just felt like home to me.

Each of them has advantages that the other does not, so many things have to contribute to your decision. I would happily stay at either one. Good luck with your decision!

I have stayed at all three of those resorts, and POFQ by far is my favorite. The S/D was just too large for me. I loved the small grounds at POFQ, and the boat to DTD. We like to stroll to POR and see Bob at the bar. It is a beautiful walk. Hands-down POFQ is my favorite!!

I have stayed at both. I liked the POFQ resort. It was a nice moderate, the nicest moderate, really. However, the Dolphin is a deluxe. The grotto pool system is great. The heavenly beds are so comfortable. You can get a balcony to sit on and enjoy the view. The location can't be beat. Hop on a Friendship Boat and motor over to EPCOT or DHS or The Boardwalk. It has plenty of Disney magic--it is right in the middle of everything! You can even see the fireworks from Illuminations. There are no little Mickeys on the soaps and toiletries, but...
