We're travelling in late January - so, I'm not expecting too much pool-time. Eliminating that as a factor.. please let me know if you think the extra money is worth the upgrade from the POFQ to the Poly. This is our first trip and have 2 kids (6 and *8). Thanks!

The times I've visted Poly while friends have stayed there, it was amazing. There is something special about that being one of the first hotels and being on the monorail. I would definitely recommend the upgrade. I like POFQ, but it's not my favorite. I would have a much harder time justifying this move over POR.

For us, it is definitely worth it :). We love the Poly and while the volcano pool is awesome (it's our favorite pool out of all the resorts we've stayed at), you also can't beat having the beach for watching the fireworks, being on the monorail, and being within walking distance to the TTC. And Captain Cooks is great for quick CS meals :goodvibes.

I would go with the Polynesian because you will get a bigger room, more transportation options and more restaurants to choose from.

We have never stayed at POFQ, but my DS has and she loved it. She really liked being close to DTD and enjoyed the food court.

We LOVED the Poly. It is my dream resort, so we book it with a room discount of 40% off July 2010. Our GV room was wonderful, loved taking the monorail to MK and EPCOT. We enjoyed Captian Cooks for a quick service eatery. The rooms are huge, landscaping is wonderful and the transportation options are fantastic.

I would not stay there at rack rate, but for a good room discount...YES

We stayed at the Poly the last week in January in 09 and had our two nieces, age 6 and 12. It was perfect for us! Yes the weather was crazy cold but it was nice having the monorail right there, the kids loved the resort and the restaurants and the arcade was a huge hit with them.

I've stayed at both with young children and we loved both trips, but the pool/beaches/riverboat ride were a major part of the appeal. In January it *could* be so cold that the several building layout of either resort would be a hassle and you'll end up huddled in your room instead of enjoying the pools beach or playgrounds. The Poly has a little more to do in the main building. Will you have a car? Would you consider Wilderness Lodge or another one building resort?

Having stayed at both, YES! Poly is definately worth it.

I don't even think the Poly pool is a strong point - when it is hot swimming weather, the Volcano pool can get crazy packed - it is just waaay to small for a resort that size (IMO).
There are so many other reasons to stay at the Poly - beautiful, large rooms, relaxing, tropical feel to the resort, beautiful lobby, great sandy beach with a view of Wishes and the ELP, excellent dining options, and the BIG plus - monorail access.
:lovestruc

If you take the swimming pool out of the equation, the single biggest reason to stay at the Poly over POFQ is the convenience. Personally I think that might be enough on its own to make the extra expense worth it. The other factors around room size and themeing depend on how much time you spend at your resort and what subjectively appeals to you.

We are staying at the Poly late Jan, so I'm a bit biased, but I say go for it! Our first family WDW trip was to the Poly 2 years ago and it was amazing. It was a bit cold in Jan but my DD still got some swim time in. The food and convenience are the biggest sellers for us, and we love the tropical feel of the environment. It makes you feel like you are really on vacation. :thumbsup2

POFQ is a FANTASTIC resort. Don't count it out because of it being a Moderate resort. The bus service is great, everything is super close, and the grounds are beautiful. Don't rule out swimming in January. We are from Wisconsin, and always swim at WDW. Florida in January seems very warm to us. We have had times when we were in the pool, and others around the pool were wearing heavy jackets. That always cracks me up!!

We'll be at the Poly 2nd week in January .Its beautiful, relaxing , and has some great places to eat also,so my vote is the Poly!::goodvibes

I had the same decision and we just booked the Poly -- as an earlier poster mentioned - the thing that pushed me over the edge was convenience. I want to be able to get in and out of MK without a bus. I also like being able to walk to the TTC to get a monorail to epcot. If you can swing the cost difference, I think the location makes it all worth it.

Definitely the Poly!!! Even if it winds up not being very warm you will have the lush tropical plants around you. If money is not an issue then transportation, theming and more dining options make the Poly the best choice.
