I just got back from my first adult only trip, with my mom, and our first trip to a moderate (POFQ). I spent quite a bit of time at both FQ and Riverside, though, because I walk in the mornings (think 4-mile run, only it's a fast walk) and I made multiple circuits around the properties, ON the jogging path and off. Also, because the POFQ food court is closed for refurbishment until Thanksgiving (approx?), my mom and I made a few trips up to Riverside to try their offerings too. And I spent pool time in both resorts. So wife wanted AoA because of the price and I wanted POFQ because everybody that posted a reply. So I tried to convince her last night with all reply post from here, so we slept on it. I checked prices this morning an found POR for $157/night. Is there a big difference between the two the Port Orleans Resorts? Booking riverside at that price feels like a compromise for us.
I would definitely stay at POR, at that fabulous price! I liked the food court (compact, yet lots of seating, nice choices, reliable coffee), I liked the pool (lush surroundings up close to the pool, nice slide even for a 55yo), the ambient music just as nice as at FQ. And I liked the looks of the different areas - - esp the Alligator Bayou.
And it's a nice walk (or boat ride) to FQ, so you can pop down many times for the beignets and jazzy ambient music there. You can still stroll around and soak up the New Orleans vibe, stopping by the lovely fountains and water displays - - and you can even use the pool there, nice and much more open in the sun. And still get back to your room without too much trouble.
I can't compare the room decor, and we never took the buses to the parks from POR, but with a mindset that includes longer walks, you can definitely make the most of both resorts. We didn't see Yeeha Bob's show either, and only a few minutes of the evening show at FQ, but you could do both during a stay at POR.
And Boatwrights is not to be missed!
