Hi All! Recently upgraded to POFQ for our December trip - am wondering if it's worth grabbing a few meals at the Sassagoula Food Court at the hotel - does the food court offer any specialties/are there foods they do particularly well?

And of course if there is anything to avoid there please let me know also!

Thanks!

We usually grab a few meals during our vacation. There is not a ton of variety so it can get boring. I like the pot roast, jambalaya and gumbo. My dh likes the philly cheesesteak too. My dd and dh love the meatball sandwich. I would suggest avoiding the burgers. I had one a few years back and it was so greasy I could not eat it. Hopefully, they have gotten better, but I would rather eat so many other things before the burger.

The nice thing about FQ is that you can buzz down to Riverside to eat or even hop the boat to DTD. I love Earl of Sandwich and really wish they'd bring one in hear my home.

We were there last year in September and the food was okay, nothing jumps out except the beignets...those were really good:thumbsup2

Well, people are going to rave about the beignets, but I found them to be your average lumps of fried dough. :confused3

One other tip: If you're on the dining plan, or just trying to save $$, you can share the breakfast platter. Northerners like us don't typically think of biscuits as breakfast food, so we substitute a second Mickey waffle for the biscuit and it's plenty.

We pretty much use the food court for breakfast or a drink after the parks, so I don't have a lot of advice to offer on lunch or dinner.

Yes it is! We ate many meals there in May 2011...tons of pics and full reviews in my May 11 link

We had it a couple nights and we liked it. I enjoyed the pasta which you have different choices on what to add to. One night we went to the little bakery and had dessert and it was nice also.

The made-to-order pasta and salads are good. The Magic Cookie Bar at the bakery is considered a dessert on the dining plan (or a snack) and is REALLY good!!

Now, everyone seems to talk about going to POFQ for the beignets... yes, they're good... enjoy!

I hear the jambalaya is good too... hubby has gotten that several times.

However, the real hidden gem that I don't hear a lot of people talking about is the ribs served at dinner time... they're the soft, fall-off-the-bone type... with the perfect amount of just-sweet-enough sauce that you don't mind getting on your fingers because once the ribs are done, you can start licking your fingers to still get the fabulous flavor! :lovestruc My DM & DMIL have both also become addicted to these ribs. And if you like a creamy, buttery, cheesy mac 'n cheese - they've got that too... the ribs are served with two sides, but I usually get a double side of this mac. Oh, and it's also served with a nice, warm cornbread... slap some extra butter on there and I'm here: :cloud9:.

Just so you know, our family goes to Sassagoula even when we're not staying at POFQ. That's how much we love it! :goodvibes

try the beignets! not sure if y'all get them in upstate NY, but here in Aus I think it would be very, very hard to find someone selling beignets so it was something very different for us :)

We had one meal there last month. It was perhaps the least memorable meal of our trip. Nothing bad, but we found the Jambalya, gumbo, etc. to be just very spicy without being tremendously "flavorful." We were looking forward to the beignets, but didn't like them that much. They had a funny taste to them (perhaps the oil needed to be changed or something). Granted, we have been to New Orleans and eaten beignets at Cafe Du Monde on many ocassions, so my expectations were high (especially considering all the raves they receive here).
