Looking for some opinions here basically on the different dining options at port orleans. We are headed to Disney this coming December, staying at the French Quarter which will be our first time staying at either POFQ or POR. Looking at the different dining options they all seem pretty good (specifically the lounges and sit down not so much the quick service). Basically we are in our late twenties (no kids just us going) and we are looking for opinions on what people enjoy most for grabbing a drink, maybe a snack or a full meal? We have no problem walking over to Riverside too and we know the resort is really easy to get to Disney Springs from (which is one of the reasons we booked it) but we are definitely interested in checking out the options around the resort - maybe to grab a drink at one night before heading to Disney Springs or to a park or maybe to grab dinner sometime. Looking forward to the responses!

Hi OP . DH and I have stayed at POFQ since our honeymoon back in 1998. We spend time at the pool weather permiting at both resorts (most trips have been mid-November) . Shelley at Mardi Grogs at POFQ is the best bartender. Walking up to POR to visit the River Roost or stop by the pool bar is a regular part of our trips. We eat dinner at DS several nights a trip. The Shrimp & Grits, Etouffee and Jambalaya are the favorite dishes for us at Boatwright's . A great source of info is www.portorleans.org

Just to be clear .. there is no sit down restaurant at POFQ.
You would have to walk over to POR for that.
From POFQ main hub to POR main hub it's about 6/10 of a mile.

POFQ has quick service and a bar, plus pool bar.
POF has table service, quick service, great lounge/Yeeha Bob and a pool bar.
Boat to DS is a huge perk and I'd likely be doing most my dining down there if I had time.

POFQ only has Mardi Grogs at the pool for a beverage and maybe a sandwich or the Sassagoula foodworks food court. The Beignets freshly cooked to order are a treat at Sassagoula!
The only table service restaurant is at POR (and is one of several reasons why we prefer POR). However, it is only a 10 minute stroll over to Boatwright's at POR so not a big deal. Also you can take the boat to Disney Springs to take advantage of the many options there. We usually choose to eat at the theme parks when staying at POFQ or take a cab/Uber to another resort. The good thing is there are lots of wonderful places to eat all over WDW.

Enjoy!

depends on what you like but I really enjoyed the shrimp and grits at Sassagoula in March (and the beignets, while maybe not authentic, are fun).

but I wouldn't eat there more than once per trip, myself, so I would agree that the boat to DS will provide a lot of other great options: the Boathouse, Morimoto and Earl of Sandwich (for value) are some of my favorites and Homecomin' has some great reviews.

OP we are big fans of Wolfgang Puck Express in DS Marketplace. If we aren't very hungry we split a side salad &pizza. If we want full meals the ravioli, spaghetti with meatballs, roasted chicken and meatloaf are our favorites. They also have entree salad and sandwiches.
We eat there several times a trip.If we are there for dinner after walking around DS go back to POFQ for a nightcap there or at POR

This is seriously the truth. One of the best bartenders and CMs on property. Just stayed at POFQ in February and we had a blast. I would also recommend walking or taking the internal resort shuttle to POR for Yehaa Bob. Plenty of space at the bar or tables. It's a good time for all ages and something of a Disney Tradition for many.

I'll add that Lalonda is also an amazing bartender. She works both POFQ and POR. She treated us very well during Hurricane Matthew and even recognised us during our trip a couple weeks ago at Scat Cats.

We just have to order a "Matthew" now, when we want our favorite beverages. :)
