Hi All-

I need your POFQ expertise, please! DH and I are planning to visit in 11/02. We currently have a pretty good rate at the Wilderness Lodge for 7 days. We were very excited to stay there!
Yesterday I received a postcard. It's for a great rate on the moderates. I am seriously considering switching to POFQ (it will mean the difference of $800). Does anyone have information on this resort? Pictures would be even better! We were supposed to stay at POFG last December, but it was closed. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks!
Erin

Hi Erin!

We have stayed at POFQ 5 out of our 7 trips to WDW! The resort is charming in its theme/decor and small, which means that everything is close to the main building. Its very easy to find your way around here!

I have always found our rooms to be very clean and in good repair! The room are approx. 314 sq. ft, which is roomy enough for my family (3 of us), but not too small. Standard furnishings include an large cabinet with TV and drawer space, and a table with 2 chairs. The bath area is split, with the tub and commode spearated from the sinks by a door. There are two pedestal sinks with a shelf that runs the length of the double mirror over them. The lighting in this area could be better, but it gets the job done reasonably well. Rooms have either 2 full/double size beds, or you may request a king. Most of the rooms are nonsmoking, but there are dedicated smoking rooms if you need. The buildings have 3 floors with wrought iron supported walkways. Elevators are in each building, but it may be easier to just walk up the stairs, depending on your room location. (We have always requested a 1st floor room due to having a stroller.) The grounds are lovely...boxwood hedges and large open courtyards boardered by "gas" lamps lend a park like atmosphere that we find very relaxing. Take a walk along the river!

There is one good sized pool, complete with "dragon" slide, as well as a hot tub and playground with padded rubber surface that my DD (6) loves.

POFQ shares bus service with POR, but it is the 1st bus stop, so chances are good that you will get a seat. You'll also be dropped off 1st when coming back from the parks. The bus rides are about 10-15 min to MK, and a little longer to the other parks. Use the boat to get to Downtown Disney...very relaxing, and faster than the bus!

My only complaint is that the full service restaurant has been closed. There is a lounge/bar area still in operation...in the past there has been live entertainment at various times during the year. You can walk over to POR for a full service meal if you like--5-10 minutes, tops. The food court has been renovated, so they say, so I'm not up on the new layout.

I haven't been to WL yet (next trip with DVC membership!), so I can't compare the two, but when WDW announced that POFQ was reopening, I promptly changed my reservation from POR to the FQ! We just find FQ to be very quiet and relaxing. We have stayed at the Contemporary (I've always wanted to try it) and decided that while it was nice to be so close to the MK and Monorail, for the difference in price, we'd rather have kept the extra cash and stayed longer....

Sorry this was so long! Hope you have a great trip, no matter where you stay! I'm sure you'd be happy either way!

Are you sure you can't use the postcard code for a discount on a deluxe? Often you can!:)
The advantages of WL are the balcony(if you don't have children and need a nighttime "escape" :D this may not be critical!), the boat to MK, the viewing of the EWP each night and the charm of the resort itself. It is really spectacular. Have stayed at and enjoyed POR, not FQ. But a deluxe is a deluxe...
Have you thought about 3 nights at FQ and 4 at WL? Regardless of what you do, have fun!:)

You mght want to double check the dates for that rate. I haven't seen any that are good until November but I could be wrong. And, I agree, if you want to stay at the WL call and ask about rates for it using the PO Code. You might get a good deal.

We always stay at the PO-FQ. Last Nov we stayed at Riverside since it was closed. The resort itself is nice. It isn't a deluxe but nice. You can go to this website and see pictures as well as www.wdwig.com and see her pictures and you can go to www.ourlaughingplace.com (I think) and they have pictures there, too.

I can't comment on WL as I am from the Pacific Northwest until a few years ago. While nice, it was just like home to us and we were looking for something different.

That being said, we don't spend enough time in our room and at the resort to justify the extra $800. I keep trying, each year, to book a deluxe and I keep going back to FQ when I compare the prices. It is, though, a personal thing with me. I hate to spend money.

You can do a search on this board about FQ and find lots of comments. I know I did one that posted all the reasons why I liked FQ. That might be helpful.

There were several things we liked about the French Quarter. Initially the theming was attractive to us, however the longer we stayed we truly enjoyed the "size" of the resort itself. The food court, pool, and jacuzzi were conveniently located. The pool with the serpent slide, was enjoyed by all, even the adult kids. One of the other benefits of this location is the river boat ride to Downtown Disney. We stayed on the riverside and would sit outside in the late evenings along the river and listen (it was dark) as the boat made trips back and forth to Downtown.
Would definitely recommend this moderate for size, atmosphere, and convenience.

Are you sure the rate goes through November? We are going then too and I would be curious to know if discounts for November are starting to come out. So far I have seen nothing.

Hi All-

Thanks for your great info! I called CRO last night and spoke with a FANTASTIC CM named Cassidy. I highly recommend her! I was not able to get my postcard rate extended, but she really listened to what I wanted and laid out the pros and cons for me. In the end I decided to switch to POFQ. The savings was about $600 (even with a king bed!). Because of the difference in price I have tentatively booked Discovery Magic (I know lots of people don't like it, but we use it to its max and LOVE it). I plan to keep watching the rates, and will lower as codes become available!

Thanks again!!!

I'm an ardent POFQ promoter, and with the 6 Benjamins you saved, you can dine at V & A's, and maybe have some left over for a nice t-shirt! ;)

Enjoy your stay at POFQ!:jester:
