Do u have to call the resturant before your arrival to get a cake at the restaurant? just the regular podium cake not personalized. We are taking my mother for her her 50th bday to la hacienda Saturday night. Can I bring in a cake from the boardwalk bakery? Tia! :goodvibes:

I don't know about the podium cake.

I think you can bring in a cake, but if you do, they most likely will not store it or serve it. The storing issue is due to food safety laws where outside food can not be brought into the kitchen. Since you picked it up from the bakery, they don't know what was done to it, and are not supposed to allow it into a food prep area.

The above is what a poster once found out about Chef Mickey's - they would allow her to bring in the outside cake, but she had to keep it at the table, and the restaurant staff would not serve it. Chef Mickeys would not even provide plates or silverware, but that restaurant is a buffet and those items were available from the buffet. Not sure how they would handle that at La Hacienda, which is not a buffet. This policy came as a great disappointment to that poster, who had intended to surprise the birthday person with the cake after the meal.

Also you might consider the fact that La Hacienda is not operated by Disney. Disney's rules might not be their rules.

So maybe I should call the resturant and see what they allow and what they offer? They must atleast offer the cake at the podium right?

I wouldn't count on that - I didn't think those cakes were available at every TS location, and as stated above, since they are not owned by Disney either, who knows?

Unless you order a cake ahead of time, restaurants are not under any obligation to have whole cakes sitting around just in case somebody wants to buy one. I'm sure they'd stick a candle in one of their regular desserts and bring it out to the table, but in no way would I expect a restaurant anywhere, inside of WDW or outside, to have whole cakes sitting around for such an occasion. This would most likely result in lots of waste which negatively affects a restaurant's bottom line.

Is there a reason you don't want to order a cake ahead of time since you know that you want one?

Actually Disney does make non-personalized special occasion cakes available at its restaurants for purchase by guests.

Some of the confirmations online I have printed off have the following on them:

"Guests may request a 6" cake (non-personalized) upon arrival at the dining location for a charge of $21.00 plus tax and gratuity (no advance notice required) with the exception of Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa."

This is printed on the confirmation for a booking I made back in March. Newer confirmations don't have this language.

As March was even before La Hacienda opened I cannot hazard a guess as to whether or not they have the cakes for purchase.

I also believe this option is the least expensive option available, as personalized cakes cost more.

I stand corrected. Thank you! I never looked into it because I always figured if I wanted a guarantee of something being there then I'd arrange for it to be there. I never looked beyond that.

That's what I was going on was my ressies stated it had cakes at the podium to order. I didn't want to order a super expensive cake since we get back from disney on the 16th and we are having a huge surprise party for my mom dec17th with about 75 ppl so the cake there is costing a pretty penny so we didn't want to get another expensive cake there just for our family. Just something smaller since it will be her actual bday! Im going to call the resturant now. Ill post what they say!
