Mods, move this to Tech support if you want...but in addition to an iPhone, I got a Vodoo Mini Kit for my birthday, so move my threads at your own peril...I'm just sayin'. :rolleyes1

I tried to download a DIS podcast to my iPhone, but it is too many somethings (KBs?) and it can't do that. So, fine. It gave me the option of "Something" or "Dismiss" and I clicked "Dismiss." Whatever. I can download it on the computer and synch and all will be well, right?

Wrong. Everytime I attempt to make a call (or do other things), I get the following box popping up:
This item is over 10MB.
You must connect to a Wi-Fi
network or use iTunes on your
computer to download this item.
It gives me one option: "Dismiss." So I dismiss it. And it goes away...but it keeps coming back. It understands being dismissed, but there is no "Stay Away" box. Grr.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to STOP the iPhone from doing this. And I have looked, believe me you.

I downloaded all the missing podcasts on my laptop and synced them to my phone, thinking this would make it realize it had whatever it is trying to download and stop trying...but to no avail. :faint:

Technology. It can be more exhausting than laundry. :laundy:

Help! (please, if you can.)

Just remember although the iPhone makes phone calls, think of it more like a small computer. That being said, i would suggest simply rebooting the iPhone.

To do this, hold down the "home" button on the bottom center of the phone, while simultaneously holding down the "sleep" button on the top right side of the device. Hold this combo down for about 10 seconds and this will cause a hard shutdown. Wait a couple of seconds and then hold down the sleep button again for a couple of seconds to turn the phone back on.

If this doesn't work, sounds like you may need to restore the phone though iTunes.

Good Luck.:thumbsup2

Thank you very much. You're like a genius! MANY thanks!!!!

Yeah you can only download stuff over 10mb via a wifi network, and if you start the download you can only seem to 'pause' it rather than cancel it, so sometimes when you do things that require a network it will try to reconnect the download.
Do love the ability to download podcasts straight to the phone, didn't used to be able to at first, but adding podcasts to the phones iTunes was the best update they've made so far!

:goodvibes

For some geek-related reason, there doesn't seem to be any communication between the iTunes program we have on our computers and the iTunes application for the iPhone, at least not for podcasts (music may be a different story).

For example, iTunes on my computer has already downloaded today's e-mail show. I've synched with my iPhone and actually listened to part of the show already on my iPhone.

iTunes on my iPhone, however, still thinks I need to download the e-mail show (as well as all other shows).

If you still have problems, try this. In iTunes (on the iPhone) go to the "downloads" button on the lower right corner of the screen. The podcast you are "trying" to download should show up there. Then, delete it (you delete these the same way you delete e-mails, by sliding your finger to the left or right over the entry). The delete butten should then show up
I'm a firm believer in the reboot fix but it may not work here. Good luck.

Ah I hadn't thought to do that! Silly me.
Have sorted myself out with something that 'tricks' the phone into thinking it's on wifi when it's not, which is pretty cool, but also hit and miss. However I got something else that let's me download straight from the podcast mainpage, but sadly it doesn't go into the iPod section, so rarely use it

Hi

Next time this happens, while in the Download tab, do a swipe with your finger across the file you are trying to download. This will bring up the delete button and you can delete it and it will stop re-trying to download.
