Hello!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice digital camera to take on our first trip? I'd like a really quick shutter, no bulkiness, (not a professional's camera by any means: something that fits inside my pocket and, better still, inside a small sandwich baggie during water rides) and has really nice coloring and exposure. If anyone could both recommend a camera and show me a picture they took with it, please, I'd really appreciate it! Right now I have an iphone 4S. Not bad for a phone, but...well it is still a phone, isn't it?

I use a Canon PowerShot A3500 IS that has HD and Wi-Fi. It's lighter than my Nikon Coolpix and easily fits in pockets or a side pocket of my little backpack. Both cameras have 5X optical zoom.

They are both easy to operate and we have never had a problem with picture quality when we have asked a CM to snap a photo for us. Here are a couple of examples from the Canon:

Guh! Your trip looks so fun. Thanks for the tip! I've been pouring over Amazon reviews all afternoon! (Shh; it's a slow day at work.) It looks like most Canon's that are highly recommended are out of my price range. I wish there was some sort of trial period with cameras so you could buy one, fool around with it, and if it wasn't what you were looking for, trade it in.

I recommend Fuji or Pentax, but don't know what's available in the US.

Incidentally, there IS somewhere you can get a camera on a 30-day 'trial'. QVC!

I ordered a bridge camera from them for my 2013 holiday - luckily they were doing a good TSV offer just in time to be delivered so I could take it away with me. Then, if I hadn't got on with it, I would have sent it back losing only my postage.

As it happened, I got on extremely well with it, and now take some fantastic shots!

I love my Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 II. It has the largest light sensor of any pocket camera. It takes great pictures outside, low light, no flash, movement, however it is fairly expensive for a pocket camera.

I'm not sure of the exact model, but I bought a Sony Cybershot in January for a Pink concert :thumbsup2:cool1::rotfl: and it took the best pictures in low light without a flash that I have seen, and I have been very happy with it for every day pictures. I have my Canon Rebel but I'll be taking my Sony on my trip with me for size reasons, just much easier to carry around!

Olympus TG-3. Meaning it is a tough camera, can be dropped, used in water, etc. It has wifi.
It is great for underwater photos, which is what we also love about it.

It has an amazingly fast shutter.

See photos in my trip report.

I also recommend the Canon Power Shot... not only for the great quality but they have absolutely the best customer service.

In 2009 I used a Pentax and it was a great camera, in 2012 I had purchased a Panasonic Lumix (water proof as well) and it takes just as nice photo's, vids and I do not have to worry when it rains and I used it for underwater shots of my boys at Castaway Cay. Nice caring only one camera and not worrying about rain, fits nicely in the small pocket of my back pack.

I know today the same type of camera have better features than my Lumix so you really cant go wrong for family vid's & photo's.

I hope the Sony Cybershot S110 is comparable to the S120. I bought the S110 yesterday for my trip - I have a great DSLR but it is bulky and heavy.

The S120 was recommended by a photographer (it's his point and shoot) but I needed a lower price point.
