PO riverside vs French Quater

I was able to get my mother and aunt a room at FQ just prior to hurricane charley. Even though I am a cm, that was the first time that I had even seen it(although I've stayed at most of the others,and had seen all of the others). I thought it was great! Both my mom and aunt had scooters, so the front desk cm gave them a room by the boat dock. It was their first trip to WDW and they loved it. They really liked being able to take the boat to DTD. The buildings did remind me of New Orleans. Food court? I walked through it, not really paying attention--DTD was too close to worry about it.

Capt. Bill... how long of a boatride is it from POR to DTD? Also- you might know- (not sure who to ask... maybe you don't)... can kids bring their OWN fishing gear to the Fishin' Hole???
