Just wondering what is the difference between the standard view and the water views?

thanks.

standard view is nearer parking lot &/or looking at garden area. Waterview is either overlooking river/creek or pools. We had 2 different waterviews. 1st time at pors we had bayou rooms and over looked kidney shaped pool and parking lot (really felt this was not waterview but late and didn't argue) you had to lean over and down to see pool & 2nd we were in oak manor corner room and had view of the river, much better.

My mother-in-law had a waterview once that overlooked a tiny pond with ferns. Nice, but not my idea of a waterview. LOL! Since there are no balconies at any of the moderates, I've always gone with a standard view.

I have heard a lot of complaints about the standard view especially if it is a "parking lot" view. But I have to say that I chose standard view, had a first floor room and I couldn't even see the parking lot directly in front of my room because of the beautiful landscaping. I suppose if you were on the second floor you would be able to see it, but I had a small "yard" with a white picket fence and lots of landscaping between me and the parking lot. For the record, I had Acadian House, room 8019, and had no complaints. Very close to the bus stop, 5 minute walk over Ole Man Island to the food court. It was such a lovely walk, day or night, that you don't notice that it is at all long. 5 minutes to me is not long anyway. This is my favorite resort, and if I didn't get such a great nurse's rate for the Swan in September, I would be headed back there!

I stayed at POR when it was Dixie Landings and had a standard view. We had a nice view of the center courtyard in Magnolia Terrace. It was about 10 rooms down from the parking lot, the bus stop was across the parking lot. Walk over the bridge to the main pool and then another bridge for the food court & main building. I wouldn't pay extra for a water view at a moderate since there is no private balcony to sit on, just an outside walkway.

When we were booking our trip for Jan. of this year I was fretting over the view and distance from food court. I was very anxious at not having a request! In the end it really didn't matter, we stayed in aligator bayou and dh and I decided that we wouldn't have minded staying in any of the buildings! There were advantages to any choice, and the walk to the food court was almost too short! I need the exercise to work off the stuffed banana french toast. I'm going back next Jan. just too have it! We stayed in building 27.

I would like to add: request a corner room, even with the standard view cause if your facing the parking lot maybe the other window will be facing the garden! It is exactly the same size room, but it "felt" bigger with 2 windows.:D

We have stayed in both. IMHO the water view was not worth the extra money.
