I have been going to Disney World since I was in 5th grade and we are very excited about saving up for our first trip with our son (we will be celebrating his third birthday). Although I have been numerous times, my DH has only been twice and both times we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. I love this resort! I find it very relaxing and drinking coffee by the waterwheel is a favorite morning tradition of mine! My parents are going as well and this resort has been hands down our favorite moderate resort. It has been awhile since I have stayed are CBR (I think 10 years!) and I know they have made a lot of changes and improvements. We are considering staying here since my DH has not experience any other resort, but at the same time I am wondering since we can only make the trip every 3-4 years if we should just stick to what we know we love! My son will be content as a long is there is a pool I am sure! Any thoughts????

Thanks!

I have stayed at POR and loved it. But I am planning to try CBR next. If it was me, I would pick CBR, mainly since you've been to POR numerous times. CBR has definitely changed since your last stay. Your DS would love the brand new pool! Check out Momof2Disneyboys' "just returned" thread for lots of information and pictures!

Thanks! I am leaning towards CBR for something different....I need ammo to convince my parents LOL

How many days are you going for? Consider a split stay. Half at POR and half at CBR. You'll get a chance to try out something new, and will still have your comfort Zone for part of the trip. Your luggage will be moved by Disney to the new resort. It's a pretty painless process. Me, I'm a fan of POR, and keep going back for more.

We go to Disney almost every year and have stayed at several resorts, one being CBR several years ago. We are going back in a few months and are staying at CBR and couldn't be more excited. It's so big and spread out, there's the beach for your son to play at as well as the new pool with the pirate ship kid's area. Definitely check the link mentioned above. We also read that you can watch Illuminations from the beach. Just seems like such a great family resort. Go to youtube.com and watch the videos for CBR . . .

no matter what you end up doing, it's Disney so it will be great!!!

We love CBR, but have always wanted to give POR a try. We enjoy trying something new, but it is hard to give up what you know is good!

CBR does have a lot to offer families! :goodvibes Our kids don't want to stay anywhere else and DH and I love the relaxed tropical feel to CBR.

Sorry I haven't been much help! :upsidedow Good luck, I know it is a hard decision.

You didn't say how old your son is - but the pirate themed pool at CBR is very cool!! There's a zero entry kid's pool with littler slides and water bucket etc. Plus a larger pool with slides and zero entry too.
We just stayed at CBR this Jan. Last year we stayed at POR, but only for 2 nights. We really liked both. POR was more quiet and relaxing in feel, and the grounds are especially beautiful. They have a pretty nice pool too, although we didn't use it. CBR has the beaches, hammocks, a patio with umbrella tables out near the pool. It felt very much like we were on vacation in a tropical place (despite some cold weather!) The older people we were with had trouble walking long distances, so that may be a consideration. You just may want to request certain buildings or get preferred rooms. I think my kids much preferred CBR. POR is near DTD and you can take a nice boat ride there - that was fun.

Good luck with your decision!!

My son will be turning three during our trip, so I am not sure if he will really care about the pirate themed room- but I did just check out the Pirate ship kiddie pool area and think I may be sold on CBR! He would love that! Thanks for all the tips. I hadn't thought about my parents walking, so I am glad that it was mentioned to request preferred rooms to limit the walking!

We had considered the resort hopping too! More to talk about the next time we try to plan some more! thanks all!

We have stayed at both 3 times each and love both but DH really prefers the CBR because of the themeing

We have never stayed at either. But we are one of those who when you have success and enjoy a resort, we tend not to change. So personally, I would stick with what you know and what you have enjoyed.
