I was just curious if anyone has stayed in bldg. 27 by the river (by the path). I read that some of the rooms are smoking in this building and was wondering if you could smell the smoke even if you were in a non-smoking room. My son has severe allergies and this wouldn't work so was checking to see if anyone had stayed there and could offer an opinion.

Thanks

We have never stayed in this building, but have stayed in a smoking room befor and have never smelled smoke. I too have allergies and had no problems. :D If you are really worried about it, call the resort and explain your situation and ask for a non smoking room.

Thanks Pooh 67_68 ...

We will be in a non-smoking room but someone told me that there will also be rooms around it that are smoking since Bldg. 27 is both smoking and non-smoking. I'm glad to hear that you couldn't smell smoke though. That makes me feel better.

When I talked to the resort they knew of the medical situation so I am thinking perhaps the smoking rooms are on the other end or something. Thanks again, that makes me feel better.

We stayed at POR (then Dixie Landings) Bldg 27 in Sept. 2000 and at the time I never even knew there WERE smoking rooms in that building while we were there!! We had no problem with smells or people smoking on the balconies where we were (room 2756). Maybe they have different sections within the buildings?

Thanks Sammy -- That really helps. One just never knows. I am thinking they must have certain parts of the building that are smoking and nonsmoking.

How was the walk from the building to the food court/main building area? It doesn't seem like it would be that far away since it is close to the trail by the water area but it is hard to tell.

We were in bldg 27 right on the path exactly where you are talking about.
This was October 2002

we were on the first floor one room from the corner room right on the path way. This room was non smoking. At the time i was a smoker and had to go outside to smoke so I definitely rememebr this location being non smoking or at least the room.
As far as others smoling around myself, It seemed that i was the only one on this floor that was smoking outside so to someone who had a problem smelling it this would have not been an issue. The room did not smell at all.

I'm glad this was brought up. I have my ressies for non smoking in the mansions, but I wanted to try and request Oak Manor. Now I understand that is a smoking building. So do you think it would be the same situation over there, we wouldn't be able to smell it? My son is extremely affected by the smell of smoke.

Thanks. That sounds like it is the exact location. How was the location in regards to the main food court, etc.? And, was it easy to navigate as my mom will be on a scooter?

Dawn F316 - If the whole building is smoking I might be a little leary... especially if you were in a smoking room ... but if it is a combination with a non-smoking room, from the answers that I am getting here, sounds like it wouldn't be bad. Although I have read posts, even on this thread that said that even in the smoking rooms they do such a good job that you can't smell it.

We were on the side of the building that faced towards the Food Court area and the walk was about 2 minutes! We had requested Bldg 14 because that is where everyone on the boards suggested d/t being the closest buildings. BUT....we ended up in 27 and I liked it much better! Once I saw the location of 14, I thought it was much too close to the food court for my liking. Also, we were about a 30-second walk to the quiet pool as well. We all thought it was a GREAT location!

yay its about 2 or 3 minutes to the food court...keep going past the food court and through the general store and you are at the bus stop ( about one minute or so later).

as far as a scooter goes the bldg we are speaking of is right on the very wide path so I see no problems there.

And finally someone who agrees that bldg 27 is better than 14!!!!
Thanks Sammy

We stayed in building 27! Loved it. There are smoking rooms? Hmmm

We just returned from POR and stayed in Bldg 27 (if memory serves me correctly we were in room 2764) in a water-view room that faced the river. The walk to the food court was kind of long, though not too excessive since the resort is very large. Walk to the bus-stop was a slight travel too, as well as Ol'e Man River, but I guess if you don't want to be on top of the lobby, you have to walk to get to things...

Now to answer your question...I didn't notice any ash trays in our room, though at times I did see people sitting in chairs along the outside walkway outside their rooms smoking.

Room 2764 was awesome because it was a corner, and we had two large windows.

Thanks everyone for your comments. That is what I like about the boards, the diversity in opinions and the willingness of everyone to jump in. It has helped.
