PMSers Unite!

Hi. South shore of LI here. We haven't lost power. But at about 9:15 this morning a tree fell on the house! :scared1: i was sitting in the living room, heard this noise, and then my crazy dad went out & said a tree had been uprooted. Luckily, it didn't land on power lines or go thru the house. We've reported it, and when the storm is over they will come & remove it.

Rain has stopped, the winds aren't as bad as they were. Still staying inside.

:scared1: Thank goodness you are all okay. That was really my biggest fear because we have a lot of trees here. A house in the neighborhood had a HUGE tree go down but it just missed their car and house-- it is really amazing to see how close it got.

:rotfl: Yes, I did eventually get my coffee. Went out for breakfast and didn't get home until dinner-time. The power was on when we got home, but it was out most of the day. They haven't made a decision on whether or not there will be school tomorrow. Doesn't really matter to me, even though I will likely need to work since we start setting up the classroom. Tomorrow Zach goes to college--delayed a couple days due to the storm. I'm exhausted since the storm was so noisy last night....not much sleep.

Just popping in to say hi and glad to see everyone is safe and sound!
Been under the weather the last couple days. I actually napped for about 4 hours this afternoon and probably could have slept through the night.

Everyone take care and stay safe.

Hi all. Checking in. We did ok, didn't even lose electric which is a miracle in itself. We did lose cable and Internet which just came on at 8:30.

No damage to the outside of my house but you should have seen the inside by the time everyone left. :scared1:

Missy, how scary! I'm so glad you and your dad weren't hurt.

The DVR would be a crisis around here, Scrapps. I feel for ya!

Thanks for the well wishes, guys!

The thing about the tree is we had 2 trees on that side of the house, on the curb (which is the property of our town). About a year ago, we saw that one tree had died. I was nagging my dad about all last year, I was afraid that it would fall during a hurricane. It had been a long time since LI was hit by a hurricane & I felt we were due. So there was an article in the paper this past March about what to do about trees--dad called & the town came & inspected the tree, said yes, it was dead, and they came & cut it down. The inspector told my dad that the other tree was in really good shape. So Friday morning when I left for work, I said to dad, good thing that other tree was cut down, it would probably hit the house in a storm. Well, I was right--but about the wrong tree. And I wish I wasn't right!

They just delivered the flippin mail!

We saw our mailman on Saturday morning but he never reached our place I guess. Bummer too because apparently Chow has a gift for me and I haven't seen it yet!!!

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"

So I thought :confused3

That is so cool. Where do you sell them? My friend started out doing wedding tiarras and now has a whole jewelry business on Etsy.

So far on eBay. I'm working on some more for Etsy.

Gotta love You Tube and FB friends! I got to watch Teva's "weather channel" moment!

Link please???

Three years ago, I had a tree from a neighbor's yard fall into our house during a regular old storm in Alexandria. That bad boy fell on my DH's car blocking the cul-de-sac and taking out power to the circle (hello! no coffee!). That tree crushed a car that what street parked and while it fell INTO my driveway, my DH's car was unscathed and my van had $5000 worth of damage from breaking limbs. That wasn't even a hurricane!

Hoping the best peeps.

ps. I am a bit PUi. it is True Blood night.

Morning.

My 17 year old is moving back to Florida this morning to finish her senior year there. I am not ready for her to leave the nest :sad1:

WHAT?!!!!:scared1:

You didn't tell me that!

She has been unwilling to even give it a try here. I get that she wants to graduate with her friends, and do all the 'senior' things with kids she's grown up with. I will miss her, even with all the trouble she's given us ;)

My Zach went to college this morning and I start work. Double :sad1: because I'd planned to bring him, but when they changed the move-in date due to the storm, I had to get his dad to do it since I start work today. I will be an assistant teacher in a local preschool. The pay isn't good and there are no benefits (which means I'm still without health insurance since I couldn't afford the over $600/mo for COBRA I'd have to pay when the divorce became final in March), but it was my first and only interview in a year, a job that looks at me being a SAHM and home daycare provider as a positive thing. I love preschoolers and it will be a good match except for the financial component. At the very least I will get my foot in the door and it will make it easier to get another job (or an additional job).

I <3 True blood, but was disappointed that they cut it 10 minutes short last night!

good luck on the job! you'll be great!

I was sound asleep when a sawing noise woke me up at 7:44 AM - the town guys are out there removing the tree! No work today--hoping to make it in tomorrow since that will mean things are back to some kind of normal. Trains are having tons of problems this morning. And since I already arranged to take off Friday (the day before I leave), I only have to work 3 days this week.

Happy Crappy Monday!
Back to "normal" around here....a few roads still flooded, but power is mostly back on, so that is good! Martina got to meet her teacher this morning (just ran into her when picking up some books at school) and she is now so excited to start school next week!:cool1: When I dropped her off at camp, that was all she was talking about.

Hey Tiff! How are you? How's the kids?
