Crazy morning, crazy morning! We have dinner group at our house tonight, so I have cooking to do. I don't mind doing it, however I'm not happy with one of the couples. They were last to sign up to bring something and wanted to bring appetizers when what we need are desserts. And not only that, but she wanted to make (have her boyfriend make) this elaborate lamb dish. Problem is, we're vegetarian and honestly I don't want it in our house. One of my friends (who does eat meat) says that she's totally insensitive, which is no great surprise (this person has said and done plenty of things throughout the years--little things, but lots of them).
So when she told me about what she wanted to bring I told her that we really needed desserts. That was early Thursday morning and I didn't hear anything back from her. Long story short, she called last night at 10PM and told me that "honestly she's not into desserts". I asked her if she'd like for me to be blunt and totally honest. She said, "yes, please". So I was. I told her that since we hadn't heard back from one of the dinner group members (no surprise, he's a divorced guy, which some personal stuff going on--sweet guy, but I wasn't surprised not to hear from him
) that we really did need desserts, so that was the truth. I then told her that as she knew we are vegetarian and I didn't want her bringing a lamb dish. I then explained what we do and don't allow in the house (I'm thinking more for overnight guests, which is a bit more complicated).
The thing is, I never preach me beliefs to these people, I'm very accepting about the meat stuff when the dinner groups are other the other houses (and there have been times when we've hardly had anything to eat when it's been at one of the houses--not this persons house, however). But why should this be brought into my house? Not to mention the fact that I'd get to watch other people have appetizer and the only thing she was going to bring that we could eat was one dip.
One thing that my friend pointed out is that a lot of people who eat meat do not eat lamb.
Oh, and then another couple is only bringing pita bread because she was at after prom from 1-5 this morning so she can't bring anything else.
Hmmm, how about making something yesterday. Or picking up dessert at the store.
Anyway, I'm wishing that it was just the 2 other couples, who we are better friends with. I think we need a new dinner group, which my DH would be overjoyed about...
So that's my day! And you all didn't even have to ask!
