PMS in a Handbasket--Don't be afraid, just bring us food...

Crazy morning, crazy morning! We have dinner group at our house tonight, so I have cooking to do. I don't mind doing it, however I'm not happy with one of the couples. They were last to sign up to bring something and wanted to bring appetizers when what we need are desserts. And not only that, but she wanted to make (have her boyfriend make) this elaborate lamb dish. Problem is, we're vegetarian and honestly I don't want it in our house. One of my friends (who does eat meat) says that she's totally insensitive, which is no great surprise (this person has said and done plenty of things throughout the years--little things, but lots of them).

So when she told me about what she wanted to bring I told her that we really needed desserts. That was early Thursday morning and I didn't hear anything back from her. Long story short, she called last night at 10PM and told me that "honestly she's not into desserts". I asked her if she'd like for me to be blunt and totally honest. She said, "yes, please". So I was. I told her that since we hadn't heard back from one of the dinner group members (no surprise, he's a divorced guy, which some personal stuff going on--sweet guy, but I wasn't surprised not to hear from him :( ) that we really did need desserts, so that was the truth. I then told her that as she knew we are vegetarian and I didn't want her bringing a lamb dish. I then explained what we do and don't allow in the house (I'm thinking more for overnight guests, which is a bit more complicated).

The thing is, I never preach me beliefs to these people, I'm very accepting about the meat stuff when the dinner groups are other the other houses (and there have been times when we've hardly had anything to eat when it's been at one of the houses--not this persons house, however). But why should this be brought into my house? Not to mention the fact that I'd get to watch other people have appetizer and the only thing she was going to bring that we could eat was one dip. :furious:

One thing that my friend pointed out is that a lot of people who eat meat do not eat lamb.

Oh, and then another couple is only bringing pita bread because she was at after prom from 1-5 this morning so she can't bring anything else. :confused3 :rotfl: Hmmm, how about making something yesterday. Or picking up dessert at the store. :rotfl2:

Anyway, I'm wishing that it was just the 2 other couples, who we are better friends with. I think we need a new dinner group, which my DH would be overjoyed about...

So that's my day! And you all didn't even have to ask! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

PhD, was security at the airport a mob scene? It took us 1/2 hour to get through security and to the gate. We arrived about 5 minutes before they started boarding. Not as close as you were, but too close for me. I thought once I turned the rental car in I was through with the stress (by then I'd already checked in and checked the luggage), but little did I know. I so wanted a very strong drink, but didn't want a migraine that would come along with it. :rotfl:

I hope you find the stuffed animal. Even the older kids get so attached to them.

Security wasn't that bad at all. Because of the double stroller they waved us right in. When I got on the plane I could of really used a drink too, and I don't drink at all. Instead I downed a coke in the car on the way home.

Still it is nice to be home.

We have a parent group (one of the couples that was with us for part of the gorup.) and we have the same issues often. It gets more complicated because of Lily's allergies (I hate being one of those "I can't eat your food" type of people, but that is life.) I like just having it at my house because I can control the food contact and it is much safer. Still most people are really good about it, if they remember. My friend had to dig through the garbage a few too many times for lables to see if something was safe. She just saves them all now for us. :goodvibes

Security was so backed up that it was past the moving sidewalk. Didn't matter if people had young children or not--everyone had to wait.

When I got to Jake's t-ball game my cell phone rang and it was the one guy who we hadn't heard from re dinner group. He is coming and I assigned him dessert. :rotfl: So all is working out, but I really don't like things to be so stressful when it's supposed to be enjoyable.

Ben and I just made a BIG bowl of garlicky hummus for tonight. There's plenty for all of you, if anyone would like some. :teeth:

Now back to cooking. Couscous is the next thing.

Man, if that happened to us we would still be in Orlando! (last flight out that night.)

Dinner sounds yummy. I am so hungery and there isn't any food in the house, or I am scared of it (because it was here before we left.) DH took Anna out shopping (mothers day tmw) and Lily is sleeping so I am puttering around trying to unpack. I need to go food shopping, but then I would have to put it all away. I told DH to shop at WDW for mothers day, what better place? Oh well. We did have a great time. I don't think I got a single thing for myself shopping, but I did get some good things (and really not too much for the girls belive it or not. Just one of those crowns with the jewels you clip on for Anna.

How is everyone else?

I also didn't buy myself anything at WDW. Jake only bought a couple of things with the Disney Dollars that I gave him before the trip. I didn't buy the others kids or DH anything, but they knew I wasn't going to (I bought them stuff last time and they really didn't need anything).

Made couscous and am taking a break before making a Moraccan potato casserole. I've never made it before and hope it tastes ok. The recipe looks good, but who knows until trying it. I planned the menu so that I won't have any last minute things to cook.

Reminds me of one dinner group at one of the houses. My friend, Shelly, made Chinese food, which sounded like a great idea. She ended up chopping food all day long and was cooking it half of dinner group. We still laugh at that. I made spring rolls for appetizer that time, which was a big job and the last time that I've made them.

I just wanted to pop in and wish you all a happy mothers day! :cheer2:

Good morning!

I had an ok Mother's Day. Zach had his usual Sunday double header baseball games, so from 1-8:30PM we were there. It was cold and windy, though, so not a pleasant day to sit outside. My DH made me breakfast and my DD bought me flowers (my new camera that I bought before WDW was my Mother's Day present).

Dinner group went well and everyone had fun. Ended up with 25 people total and no major problems, other than one boy burning his wrist on the pizza bagels I had for the kids (a dinner group staple). Ouch! Had plenty of food and nobody starved without the lamb that the one couple wanted to bring. :teeth: Since most people drank wine, we have lots of leftover beer, so now my DH wants to have another get-together with the baseball families. :faint: That's because all my DH has to do is to fill a beer cooler and then show up, so why wouldn't he want to do it all again? :rotfl:

Good Morning! Yes I survived our cruise. I am still recovering though. LOL It's a long week. I hope you all have been well. :grouphug:

Hello ladies,

Hope you all had nice Mother's Days. Took the mother's to Tea on Saturday in Annapolis. It was my sis, friend, our mother and her mother. It was very nice and the weather was great. Walked down the main street in Annapolis and checked out some of the shops. Bought my mother some earrings she wanted.

FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE STOP THE RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! :furious:

Long as I remember
The rain been coming down.
Clouds of myst'ry pouring
Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages,
Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.
I went down Virginia, Seeking shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow. Five year plans and new deals, Wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, Still I wonder Who'll stop the rain. Heard the singers playing, How we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, Trying to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pouring, Falling on my ears.
And I wonder, Still I wonder
Who'll stop the rain.

We haven't had much rain--just enough to cancel a few baseball/t-ball games. It seems that for a lot of the country they are either way too dry or way too wet, with nothing in between (well, in the mid-Atlantic we are literally in between, but for those areas affected it's either too wet or too dry).

Our sun is breaking through now and I should go take a walk. Maybe after I get my vacumming done.

Aparently we picked a good week to be in FLA because we had lovely weather, and it was rainy all week up here in MI. While it is still rainy, but I am not going crazy yet because we have been too tried to go out anyway (after a week of playing in the sun at WDW.)

Still, it can stop any time now. :umbrella:

T&B good to hear your dinner went well.

Welcome back Ms J. Hope you had fun.

Rain, rain, go away, come again another day!

There, that'll work. :thumbsup2

It never rains here. Only 13 more days left here though!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I can't believe that on Friday our first group of movers come. I am not prepared at all. My new fear is that I will forget our passports and they will end up packed. I need to start pulling things out to pack but I can't because then we will show the house. I have had a stomach ache for 2 weeks.

I think I need to do a bit of shopping to take the stress away. :teeth:
