I have not taken care of myself as well as I should have over the past few years and as a result I am plus-sized. I have avoided spas and similar places in the past because I was afraid my weight would be an issue. Will I be comfortable at the spa on the ship? Do they have larger sized towels/robes? I went ahead and booked a hot stone massage and I want this to be a relaxing experience. I don't want to have to worry about my size being an issue.

Does anyone has any personal experience in this area?

Thanks!

becka - you'll be fine! I'm plus sized myself and did a massage on our 10 day last December. The robe I changed into covered me just fine. Enjoy!

Hi Becka!

I have several friends who are plus sized who love the spas at WDW...go for it and don't worry!

I also have to say, you chose a great treatment. I did the stone massage at Saratoga Springs and it was wonderful!!!! I liked it so much that I'm having it on the Wonder in about a week and a half. :goodvibes

Hi Becka - Good question! I have had the PLEASURE of a massage on the Magic, same cruise with WDWLVR. I am more of a plus/plus and the robe I was given either barely closed at the hips or the chest. Fortunately I left my undergarments on so when I walked to the treatment room my bra was no worse than some bathing suits. My suggestion is to take the spa tour when you board and look at the treatment tables, they are not very wide. Have a great cruise and enjoy!

Don't worry, the robes cover fine and it's a quick walk down the hall to your massage room. I am plus size and tall, 6 feet. I always thought the massage bed wouldn't be long enough/wide enough and I had no problem.
Also the rasul and aromatherapy rooms are no problem to manage and the seats are big enough. :earsgirl:
One thing I would recommend is flip flops!

OK, maybe I'm only a size 20 and 5'1" with a protruding belly, but I felt comfortable everywhere on the Disney ship, including the spa. I wore a one-peice swimsuit in the Rainforest Room and felt, surprisingly, average sized. The robes had room to spare for me. If you are very large and concerned, just bring your favorite robe.

The pool was the same. Women (and men) of all shapes and sizes. I could never go on a cruise that was about "externally beautiful people" showing off their bodies. Disney is more like real people enjoying themselves, their families and the relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful comes from the inside.

I agree that taking the spa tour on embarkation day is a good idea. That is what hooked me on the Rainforest Room. ::MickeyMo

Thank you for making me feel comfortable even before I have received my documents!!!

I just wanted to say that my last cruise after having 3 children I felt uncomfortable in a swim suit. Suprisingly when I boarded the cruise I noticed that a majority of cruisers on DCL were plus sized. I think you will feel comfortable and "average" as one of the previous posters stated. Enjoy the spa and pool. I have never had the pleasure of a massage on the boat. Maybe next time.

Good information to know. i never thought to ask this question. i am feeling better about my scheduled massage now.

Here is me, in a bathingsuit (just to give you an idea of my size):

I have to say that while DH and I LOVED our "couples' massage", I did not find the robe they gave me to fit properly. Especially since we had to walk from the locker room to the massage room, encountering men (and women)along the way, with nothing on but underwear and this robe! :earseek: It wasn't a big deal, but I do remember feeling conscientous of the way the robe fit. Or rather, didn't fit. LOL I think this sticks out in my memory because I am not usually overly conscientous of my size, it was just the fact that the robe didn't cover me properly. lol For next year's cruise we plan on booking a Spa Villa, so now I won't have to worry about walking through the hallways in just a robe. :teeth:

Oh and regarding the size of the massage table, that was just fine! :)

EDITED TO ADD: No one should let the size of the robes (or their own size) prevent them from enjoying a spa experience on the cruise. Like others have mentioned, there are ways around a robe that doesn't quite cover properly, whether it's bringing your own robe or other cover-up! :sunny:

I am super Pooh sized so I just plan on the robes not fitting. I have a loose t-shirt dress thing for lack of a better term that I take with me and it goes on and off quickly. That has worked for me. It gives me one less thing to worry about.

I am too plus sized (20) and decided not to go to the spa because of that reason. But after reading all the posts on here I'm thinking I just might change my mind!! :) Thanks everone for putting my mind at ease! I thought I was going to feel really embarassed by the pool and at the spa. I'm feeling much better about that now!!

I have been on 3 cruises now...two different lines and I have to agree that the large majority of people on board were plus-sized. I just had my third baby 4 months ago and don't plan on being self conscious at all while on board. IN fact, alot of the plus -sized people on board were wearing bikini's!!! As a good friend of mine says "Shake what your mama gave you!"
Enjoy and BE FREE!

This cracked me up!! :rotfl2:

My DH is always telling me to quit being so self conscience. I was worried about the robes too, and brought along a cover-up, but the robe was ample size for me, and I'm plus sized. :rolleyes1

As for the bikinis, he wants me to bring them for the cruise, but I'm really not so sure I could go that far. Maybe I'll pack one now, and see how things go... :earseek:

I am a size 20 and I did not feel uncomfortable at all!!!! Also keep in mind that most likely you are not going to see some of those people ever again!!!

Oh yeah, lots of bikinis with cellulite on the Disney cruises we've been on. ::MickeyMo That's what I love about the Disney Cruise, lots of mommas showing off their mommy bodies. Flaunt it when you can, it's your vacation-Why not! really there are not a lot of "beautiful people" on the boat, it's mostly families with multiple kids unlike the Princess cruises we take where the young 18-25s are everywhere in their little g strings.

I too am a plus sized 5'2" (18) and it's really nice to read all of these positive attitudes and experiences.

I'm a size 14, but even when I was a 16 and pushing 18, I never let that stop me from enjoying the spa! It wouldn't stop me at any size! The therapists are used to all body types, and you'll see every size and shape you can imagine on the ship and at Castaway Cay. If someone else doesn't like it, too bad for them! You will feel very comfortable in the spa, as they cater to all body types and levels of shyness. However, one comment that I got from someone else who is plus size (larger than me)...they were not comfortable in the individual seats in the rasual. I haven't had a problem with that, but if you are very large, you might want to take it into consideration. I have seen people of all types in the rainforest, and the seats in the saunas/steamrooms are bench style in there, so you should be fine.

(note to self....NOT taking DH on Princess Cruises...EVER....) :rolleyes1 :3dglasses

I'm glad to here that plus size is not a really big deal with the spa. I cancelled last years spa ressie for feeling bad about my size. DH cancelled his out of sympathy for me ( even though he wouldn't say it). The year I think I am going to ante up the courage to enjoy a well deserved message. :goodvibes
