Where do you ladies find them? I used to be able to find lovely second hand things on Ebay but that's just another Chinese knock off search engine now and I know those dresses won't fit me no matter what they promise. I want something full length and just can't seem to find it.

I've had good luck with Nordstrom. Their website is pretty good if there is not a store in your area.

We shopped here in a few of their stores. I didn't order online as I worried about length and fit. I'm not plus size any more but did notice a huge selection of plus size gowns! They have a huge selection of everything unless you are Junior sized...that is why we had to go to a few of the stores. Prom season and they were sold out.

Cheap enough to justify buying just to wear once!! Beautiful dresses, well made, I was impressed!

so I am a plus sized (24+) and it all depends on how much you want to spend, and the kind of look you are going for .... Kiyonna - http://www.kiyonna.com/plus-size-clothing/Cocktail.html, even Davids Bridal. I've never had luck at the box stores - again it depends on how plus you are...feel free to msg me too....I feel your pain...also, Catherines.com may have some....Good luck!

I've been looking at Kiyonna and Igigi and they both have gorgeous dresses. In the end it will probably come from there as all the dresses I really LOVE are either not in my size or $500. I'm a 22 or 24 depending on the dress and fabric. Wouldn't it be fun to have a dress swap site for cruise goers?!?

I get mine at Ross, if you have one by you.

I never think to look! Thanks for the reminder. Last time I was in there looking for shorts for my April cruise and they had NOTHING in my size. I didn't even think to look at the dresses though.

I remember buying a ballgown from them years ago. Thank you for the suggestions.

Lane Bryant is good as is Dressbarn

I don't have either of these near me. Gasp! Will I have to drive to a mall? LOL I will check online.

Another place I would have never thought to look. Thank you.

Www.thredup.com is another. I have friends who are size 2x and 3x who always buy nice dresses from there. They are very happy with the site and you get a first timer discount! Cheap like new or new dresses. I always worry about fit without trying on first so haven't used the site yet.

We went to a rental costume shop today looking for pirate costumes and was surprised to see fancy dresses there too! If I had known, we could have just rented them!

Also - try and filter out international sellers on eBay. That should hopefully solve the Chinese "scam" issues :)

I get a lot of dresses from eshakti.com. They use your measurements and make each dress to your specific size. I particularly like it because they customize to your height, so it's the only place I can get dresses long enough for my 6'3" self. The prices are pretty decent, and the quality has always been good. I have about 10 different dresses from them!

Also... most of their dresses and skirts have POCKETS!!!! :worship:

Unless you plan to wear it again you really don't *need* floor length. Very few people dress truly formal, in my experience. The little black dress is quite fine and will see use on many occasions after your cruise.

We are taking advantage of having somewhere to wear formal dresses! The process of shopping forand choosing was exciting, too.

David's Bridal has quite a few formal dresses (prom, bridesmaid, mother of the bride, etc) that are reasonably priced and I've had good luck with them in terms of quality and customer service. Click on dresses and from there you can narrow it down to all plus size dresses. http://www.davidsbridal.com

I have ordered several dresses from Cybernetplaza.com. I have always had good luck. Their dresses run a range of sizes and prices. We have to have floor length formal gowns for Mardi Gras and it can get expensive.
