plus size and rides

I am a plus sized mom. Currently I am at 235lbs and tend to avoid Six Flags because I am scared of being embarrased and not fitting on the rides. I used to get a seasons pass every year until I had my two youngest. I had 3 pregnancies (1 miscarriage) in two years and it did quite a number to my body. Now I'm scared that I'm going to have to miss the rides at Disney with my kids because of my weight. Am I freaking out for nothing, or am I going to truly be miserable waiting on the side for DH and the kids to get back from the rides?

no need to worry, at my biggest I was 325lbs and the only ride I didnt do was the astro orbiters, everything else I was fine on, there were a few turn styles I had to go through sideways, Disney is very size friendly.

I have been to WDW many times, not sure of my exact weight but I am in your current range now and at my largest was over 250. I have never had trouble fitting in a ride. Primeval Whirl at AK is the one that I recall as the tightest/most uncomfortable, but it was doable. I've done everything else, including the AstroOrbiters. I've also done most everything (except the obvious) while pregnant without trouble fitting. I can't say I was heavier than my heaviest post-pregnancy weight then, but the dimensions were a bit different... more belly, a bit less elsewhere.

I think if a guest is over 300lbs, a few rides may be more uncomfortable, but honestly I have more trouble fitting the length of my legs (I'm 5'6" and have long legs) in rides than the rest of me. I can't imagine how very tall men manage Disney without lots and lots of knee bruises!

Honestly though, I wouldn't avoid Six Flags for size reasons either. I did just fine at the state fair last fall, no problem fitting in anything.

You should be just fine. A few tips:

If you think you won't fit through the turnstyle there should be a wheelchair gate that you can go through. Just quietly let the CM know "that isn't going to work" with a big smile and a wink and it will be no problem without making a scene.

For rides with seatbelts try to pull the belt all the way out before you sit down and then buckle

Go and have fun!

I am bigger than you, wear a size 28w. We're there now and I have went on most every ride (didn't do Space Mountain because of leg problems) and the only problem that I had was Astro Orbiter ~ and I fit fine, I just had a hard time getting out (again, legs issues).
I have had a blast, this is the only place I can go on the rides with my kids. A word of warning though, rides with 1 bar across are better to go on with someone your size. I went on Thunder Mountain with my super skinny ds and he got thrown around quite a bit.

This is one of the things I love about WDW- I don't have any trouble with the rides, and no embarrassing "sit here in front of the whole park to see if you fit in the ride" thing like they have at Universal. I do sometimes have a squeeze on the tea cups but I'm not really a fan so it doesn't bother me.:goodvibes
You'll be fine!

I agree with this. Two that I think are the worst are Carousel of Progress and Country Bear Jamboree turnstiles. The CM's will have no problem helping you out. Otherwise...put your mind at rest and enjoy your vacation with your kids!

The seat belt trick is also a great tip! I always do this on the Dinosaur ride! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the information.

I avoid Six Flags because I did have some issues there right after I had my son. I was able to ride everything, but there were several rides where I had to squeeze myself tight or make sure my harness clicked once more before they would let the ride go. It was mostly the rides with the overhead harnesses, since I have a fairly large chest, but they again, It was just when I had my son, maybe the milk made me a little bigger than usual.

I a guy and kinda big. Most rides are no problem. It's rides like Space Mountain where I have a little trouble, you're basically sitting on the floor of a canoe. I just take my time and it works out fine.

I don't think you will have any problems. Enjoy your trip.

same size here and the only issue I had was getting in and out of Mission Space. I could not get my legs under me enough to get out plus had my jacket caught around my foot so I kept slipping. Other than that I don't really recall any issues.

I was worried about this same exact thing! :scared: We go in T-Minus 11 days and I am taking my DS5 by myself. This really puts my mind at ease! Thanks for all the great info!:woohoo::cheer2::thumbsup2

Don't worry, you will be fine! I'm a big girl too (I wear a size 24) and I have a big butt and thighs (not a big belly or chest). We went in Feb. and I went on almost everything (didn't do astro or mission space because just wasn't feeling it. didn't do Kali because it was too freakin cold to walk around wet all day, and splash was closed for refurb). However, I have ridden all of these rides before with the exception of mission space and have never had any problems at all. I've never tried mission space because I'm just not interested in it (and I think that it turns me off a bit because DH rode it shortly after it opened and he puked his guts out and was nauseous all day).
The seat belt trick works great! Disney is very plus sized friendly so just relax and have a great time!

:) Me 5'4", 220 and DH 5'6", 260, BIL 6', 280....we all ride whatever we want at Disney. WE are not plus size, but Pooh sized

I'm a lot bigger than you; I'm a size 24 pants and 4x on top and I had no trouble at all. Don't waste a minute more worrying. I saw people much bigger than me having a great time. No one will give you a second glance. You will have a blast

I am over 300 and had no problems when we went last May. I agree with everyone else, you will have no problems. Enjoy!!!
