Just booked ASSp with free dining stay in mid Sept for our family vacation and to celebrate my twins 13th b-day!!! They both eat like adults and will try ALMOST everything.

What I would like to know...
1. What your families favorite QS meal or place to to eat.
2. Your opinion on where to splurge on an OOP birthday meal at a TS resturant.
Thank you

We are also going for the fd in Sept qsdp at Pop :thumbsup2 Not sure about cs places so I look forward to other replies. As for going to a TS for their bday it would depend on what the kids like. How about Hoop Dee Doo? DD loves Ohana's and we are celebrating my niece's bday at CRT this April.

I'm not a family, and I wasn't on the DDP, but here are a couple of things I really enjoyed on my Feb trip:

Fish & Chips from Yorkshire County Fish Shop (UK pavilion at Epcot):

Honey Chicken and Pork Egg Roll from Anandapur Local Cafes (Asia at Animal Kingdom). I started eating this before I remembered to take a picture. One pic is how it comes (chicken all on top), the other is after it's stirred up (rice, veg, chicken):

MK
  • Pecos Bill - love the taco salad with all sorts of toppings to add to it
  • Cosmic Ray's - love getting the chicken and ribs combo, great value on the dining plan

EP
  • Sunshine Seasons - lots of options, without typical burgers and pizza type fare... and the bakery counter has tons of great options for desserts

AK
  • Flame Tree BBQ - love the ribs, love the chicken and beautiful outdoor areas for eating

DHS
No opinion... we usually don't have CS meals there.

2. Your opinion on where to splurge on an OOP birthday meal at a TS resturant.

Depends on what type of experience you want. If the twins like lots of antics and fun, perhaps Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge or 50s Prime Time at the Studios.

If they like characters, you could try Chef Mickey's... though that's a lot OOP. My family loves Crystal Palace breakfasts for the food and service - you'll find Pooh and friends there. Tusker House breakfasts are also nice, and you'll get Donald, Goofy, and Mickey there.

A cultural experience at Epcot might be nice too - Biergarten has a nice buffet for trying German foods, plus they have live musicians to watch during your meal. Chefs de France has quite a few delicious options - and some nice three-course lunch deals, plus you might get to meet Remy! Teppan Edo has entertaining Japanese chefs that put on an entertaining show as the creatively cook your food right there at your table.

Whatever you choose, have fun! Sounds like a great way to celebrate a milestone like entering teenagehood!

We have done the CS dining plan the last two years. I must say we really enjoyed it, and have tried a lot of CS places. I highly recommend Earl of a Sandwich at DTD. Also, we liked Columbia Harbor House and the Yorkshire Fish Company. If you need a break from the park, you might want to try the counter service place at the Polynesian Resort. I think the name is Captain Cooks. The pork sandwich there is great. I suggest you look over the menus for counter service, there are a lot of good options.

As far as a place to eat for birthday, you might consider ESPN. The food is pretty good and I think your boys might enjoy it. Also, Teppan Edo in Epcot is FANTASTIC, great food and atmosphere.

Another fan of Pecos Bills for the taco salad and toppings bar. We also really enjoy Sunshine Seasons at Epcot for the variety and strawberry shortcake.
We have stayed at ASSp twice and enjoy the chicken penne alfredo that also comes with a really yummy breadstick at the resort. It is a big meal.
Hope you have a great trip.

Thanks, for taking the time to give me so many options.:flower3:
I've seen a few good reviews of Sunshine Seasons I don't know anything about Whispering Canyon or Tusker House but I am going to check out the menus for each.

Read some terrible things about ASSp breakfast and powder eggs. How did you find breakfast at the resort? Mostly we will eat in the room cereal, granola bars etc but just in case.

Congrats on free dining!!

I have been pleasantly surprised at how good some of the QS meals are.

At MK, Columbia Harbour House is great! And, Main Street Bakery has good sandwiches. The bakery is also a gret place for using snck credits....you can get a deliciuos pastry for a snack credit.

At Epcot, we love the QS in Japan [the sushi was really good] , China, and France. And the French bakery is GREAT place to again use a snack credit and get a great snack...ie...eclairs, croissants, etc...delish!!

At Ak, Flame Tree BBQ and Yak & Yetti are the 2 best.

At HWS, Pizza Planet is fun...especially if you are big Toy Story fans like us. Or ABC Commisary is ok. HWS quick service is ok but not the best.

At DTD, you will love Earl of Sandwich and Wolf Gang Puck Express. These are 2 of the best QS places in WDW.

At the resorts: Pepper Market at Coronado Springs is really good and has a lot of variety. We also like the Mara at AK resort, and Artists Pallet at Saratoga Springs.

As for a table service place.......have you considered Akershus in Epcot? I know you said your children are 13...but...if they are girls they might still like dining with the princesses at this small castle in Norway. Otherwise, maybe consider lunch at Le Cellier in Epcot. At night it is signature dining but for lunch its not. Or, if they are adventurous, try Boma. This is one of my favorite restaurnats in WDW. It at the AK resort. THey have some African foods as well as a lot of great traditional American options.

Have fun!!

Another shout out for Columbia Harbour House in MK. Also, Cosmic Rays for the Chicken and Ribs - the best value for money you can get on free dining - and Pecos Bill for the amazing Taco basket.

Sunshine seasons at Epcot for the widest selection of dining options.

ABC in Hollywood Studios for something different - they do curry or a burger with shrimp.

Animal Kingdom -Flame Tree and Yak and Yeti (but they keep changing the menu)

For two adventerous teenagers I would suggest Teppan Edo in Japan. The food is good and the chef puts on a good show. Our DD was given a chef hat and a tiny origami bird along with free dessert when it was her birthday.

I think I'd try for 'Ohana as a special meal. In the Poly so a nice atmosphere. And lots of meat and sides for big appetites. If you schedule it at the right time you can possibly see Wishes as well. And they usually give a little something extra for bdays.

MK: Cosmic Rays gotta love the ribs and chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. I haven't had Columbia Harbour House but I've read good things on here and appears.net about it. I also told my parents about it and they ate there in October and loved it. They said they will go back each trip. Also, Main Street Bakery. Love their breakfast.

AK: Flame Tree BBQ and Yak and Yeti.

EPCOT: Tacos at the CS in Mexico are good. Sunshine Season.

Whispering Canyon at WL has good food and crazy antics. Ohana is a good one. I liked Hoopty Doo a lot. I also like Coral Reef at EPCOT.

We like:
MK: Columbia Harbour House - clam chowder, sandwiches, fried shrimp, all very good - skip dessert and have a treat elsewhere.
AK: Flame Tree BBQ is good, Pizzafari is not my favorite, but my teens like it, and they have a good chicken Ceasar for me.
DHS: Starring Rolls for lunch, Writer's Stop for coffee and a treat
Epcot: Sunshine Seasons (lots of good choices and good desserts too), Kringla bakeri og cafe (sandwiches and pastries), Boulangerie Patisserie (sandwiches and pastries)

MK we like Comic Rays or Peco Bills

AK Restaurantosaurus

Ecpcot Sunshine Season alike of different choices for all of you, GREAT DESSERTS :cool1:

HS Pizza Planet looks just like Toy Story Movie's and Backlot Express

All thes place are in the AC because after walking all day. You need to sit and rest in the air!!

I have 2....My very favorite is Wolfgang Puck Express. It's much more like a TS and the food is so good, great flavors and a good variety!!! My second is Columbia Harbour House in MK. I love the tuna salad sandwich and the hummus sandwich. :goodvibes

Excellent choices!:)

Our favorite QS meals are at MK. We love Pecos Bill, Columbia Harbour House, and Tortuga Tavern. My family loves to go get root beer floats at Sleepy Hollow when we're hot and tired in the middle of the afternoon. It's a tradition that we always have to have a nice long break at the seating at Sleepy Hollow at least once each trip.

MK - Cosmic Rays, Columbia Harbour House
EP - Tangierine Cafe, La Boulangerie Patisserie (but they're all so good...check menus for what appeals)
HS - Studio Catering Company
AK - Flame Tree BBQ
DTD - Wolfgang Puck Express
Resorts - Captain Cook's at Poly, Mara at AKL

"Splurge" for table service -
It's hard to know what each family would consider a splurge vs what fits easily into the budget, but our current favorites are 'Ohana, California Grill and Hoop Dee Doo Review! We also recommend Raglan Road during the entertainment, Biergarten, Les Chefs de France and either TS in the Mexico pavilion.
