Pls point me to a good beach from Raleigh, NC

No other vacation destination has the great resources of the DIS!

I am trying to find a nice beach for a family taking an overnight trip from near Raleigh. Without even knowing what town to begin in, finding a nice hotel is overwhelming. Just thought I would check in here for recommendations! (The DiS knows all!)

Wrightsville Beach.

which is only 2 hrs from Raleigh and as the other post states, Wrightsville Beach is a great choice. There are several hotels on the beach, but of course would be a bit pricey this time of year. There is a Hampton Inn, Residence Inn & a Hilton Garden Inn right on this side of the bridge that goes over to Wrightsville that would only be about 5 minutes from the beach.

We always go to Fort Macon State Park down at Atlantic Beach. Beautiful beach that is never too crowded. Concession stand, decent restrooms, and shower romm for a small fee. They do have a lifeguard. Lots of hotels and condos in the area, and excellent seafood. It takes us about 2 1/2 hours to get there from Garner.
