Pls Help Me Retain My 160 LBS Weight Loss at WDW

Put the fork down.

For me putting the fork down is step one. Step two is picking up the salt. Once the fork goes down I pickup the salt shaker and put a nice coating of the white stuff on everything left on my plate. This way I am not tempted to pickup the fork again if they don't pickup the plate for a few minutes. Sounds silly, looks silly, but it works for me.

I :lovestruc this idea. I am totally stealing it! :worship:

Although I usually do quite well...I sometimes eat "just a few bites more" than I would have if my plate had been cleared in a timely manner.

I've also tried handing it to DH (when we are getting a TO GO box) but then he's usually the one having "just a couple more bites" so it doesn't always work out to our advantage. At Disney we never leave the restaurant with anything so the salt solution would be perfect!

Thanks for the great tip!! :thumbsup2

Congrats on the weight loss! I lost around 60lbs around a year and a half ago. When we went to Disney last November, I was a little nervous. I researched the menu's ahead of time and marked down the restaurants that were friendly to my diet (low carb and low sugar). It worked out for most of the trip. I also exercised in the mornings while the wife and kids were getting ready. This year, we are staying at a deluxe that has a gym so that will be better than last years moderate that did not have one. If you have will power, you will be fine. FYI, the restaurants will assist you if they can. Just ask when ordering. If you eat like me, they have sugar free / low carb brownies at various counter service locations in Epcot. They are to die for!!!!!!!!!! When we went to these locations, my whole family got them whether they wanted them or not so I could eat them all! Good luck and enjoy in moderation!

That's awesome too! I'm down 9 lbs., 57 lbs. left until I reach my dream weight. How did you do it?

Thank you! I started walking every day, first 2 miles, until gradually I worked up to 5 miles every day, regardless of the weather. There were a few days this winter I missed because of snow, other than that, every day! There is a trail near where I live that has several steep hills and is challenging enough to be a good workout, because I hate regular exercise!!! I also changed my eating habits by just eating more veggies, fruit , cutting out processed foods and drinks, no soda was a big one for me! I added more fiber and whole grains to my diet.

Good luck on your journey, the main thing is realizing it is a lifestyle change and not a diet.:thumbsup2

Great advice! I just think about 5 lbs. at a time... I mean, 5 lbs. doesn't sound that difficult!

congratulations on your loss! That is awesome! I recently lost over 30 pounds on WW (my DH is still losing and on the plan) and I fully intend to maintain during our week long trip in May! I have been looking at the menus of the places we have ADR's, planning what I will likely have, figuring out other meals and snacks and while I intend to have room for treats, making sure I know where I can find lots of fresh fruit, veggies, etc. I also like a bit or two of something I really WANT and then I don't feel deprived. I don't have to have the entire dish, just a taste, yk? So, if I really want to try a dole whip for example, we might split one with our whole family instead of me having one myself. I get to try it, but I don't over do it.
Again, congratulations on your amazing weight loss! Have a wonderful trip!

OP congratulations on your weight loss. My best tip is to make sure you have snacks with you that you enjoy to avoid getting over hungry. One that I love are 100 cal packs of nuts - the cocoa dusted and cinnamon ones are great.

Another is to make sure you keep hydrated. Many times hunger is mistaken for thirst. Finally, when you want a treat allow yourself one but share it with someone. This will keep you satisfied but you won't over do it.

Congratulations on such a huge success!!!! Something for you AND your daughter to be so proud of:):)

Enjoy your trip to Disney. Watch what you eat, but have fun. You will be doing SO much walking that you will be burning calories. Make the most of the exercise you CAN get, so that you can enjoy yourself.

There are websites to go to to see menus. So many great choices. Make them work for you and what's best for you. But remember, this vacation is a celebreation of how far you have come. You don't have to blow it:):) BUT you can celebrate it.

Again, congratulations. You are an inspiration!

Watch the carbs.

Walk a lot. Workout a few times.

Last time at the World I wore a pedometer. I averaged walking 7.5 miles per day. I stayed @ BC and walked to and from DHS each time we went. I worked out twice at the health club for about 45 min each and twice I got up early and jogged around the lake.

Since I was on vacation I didn't want to just eat salads every day and starve myself. I ate really well - but just tried to cut the carbs in half or more. I skipped the bread - ate half of the fries - loaded up on meat and veggies. I enjoyed dessert but only a few bites (expect for the bread pudding @ Ohana's; I couldn't stop eating that!).

After 7 days I actually lost a few pounds. So it can be done.

Good luck!

I just got this email from Weight Watchers. Has lots of great tips. Some apply, some don't but still good information:

HOW TO NOT SABOTAGE YOUR WEIGHT LOSS ON VACATION

Drink up
You might think hunger is drawing you into that deli, but in reality, water may be the only refreshment you need, says Delman. Carry a water bottle during the day and drink from it often—especially if it's hot or humid.

Shop for your hotel
Before you book your lodging, ask if the location has a fitness center or even better, scheduled group classes. If you're traveling with a friend or family member, invite them to join you for a workout.

Be a teetotaler
A single fruity drink poolside can add 600-plus calories to your daily intake, says Zehetner. If you must have an alcoholic beverage, avoid anything that has more than one or two ingredients. Smart choices include wine spritzers, light beers and rum and diet cola.

Do a walk-by
Buffet tables are wonderful but not always if you're trying to watch what you eat. Delman suggests assessing the entire table before you get in line so you can select items that you really want. And don't be afraid to serve yourself. Chefs are trained to pile it on. Can't wrestle the spoon away? Ask for smaller portions.

Get an exercise wake-up call
Sure it's tempting to sleep in, but carving out 30 minutes in the morning for the treadmill or lifting weights will boost your calorie burn for the whole day.

Be a dinner detective
Don't be embarrassed. Ask your server about portions and ingredients. For example, inquire about how many eggs the chef uses in her omelets, says Zehetner, and whether or not a sauce is made with cream or butter.

Share and share alike
A single restaurant dessert is designed for between two and four people, says Zehetner. "And they're really rich—loaded with calories. Don't eat an entire serving of cake by yourself," he says. Instead, get one or two servings for the entire table. "Fill up on veggies and protein at dinner and make dessert what it is: a treat."

I am currently I am on weight watchers. I am doing so well now that fruit is free. Ist off make sure you keep hydrated. I also plan on using a pedometer when I go. Most Disney reseraunts have no problem dealing with special dietary needs. If you call Disney Dinning the will make a note of it on your reservation. Often the chef wil come out and talk to you and make you something special. At buffets they will walk you through it and point out the good choices for your dietary needs. If you go the the WDW site and click on eating you can print out an updated menu for the different resteraunts. This is what I am doing. I will then bring it to my weight watchers meeting and go over the menus with my WW leader she will help me make some good choices ahead of time. Just wish there was a WW meeting on the Disney properties. I bet there are alot of people there that would take advantage of it. By the way congrats on the weight loss. Hope this helps. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Congrats to you!

Having been going through some weight loss myself my best advice to you would be to order groceries into your room. The BEST way to track calories is to control everything YOURSELF - and you just can't do that at a restaurant (portions, amount of oil/butter used, etc.). I would order in some wheat bread, milk, oatmeal, healthy cereal, bananas, deli turkey (specify 99% fat free), apples, maybe some sort of low cal 'treat' that you enjoy (fat free pudding perhaps). I would eat breakfasts in the room and then pack a sandwich and apple for lunch and bring it in a backpack. Then eat a reasonable dinner based on suggestions here. Also bring a big water bottle with strap and get free ice water throughout the day to stay hydrated!

Best of luck!
