Pleasure Island ?

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what they are doing to Pleasure Island? Is part of it still open? Thanks

The clubs are closed, the buildings are empty, and all they've done is put a stupid celebration street party thing in front of CW in an effort to say "don't pay any attention to these empty buildings"

The new restaraunt is slated to open soon, but that was planned before they ever announced closing PI. It is also not in place of any of the clubs.

I have to agree. T-Rex is up and running and is pretty neat. But so far, the buildings are empty. It's kind of boring walking through there right now, but they are working on them. I live about 45 minutes from there and go to Downtown Disney quite often since it doesn't cost me much. Haha!

If they are working on them, I fail to see it! Mannequins and 8-trax have been torn apart for months and remain unchanged. Soundstage, AC, and Motion are show ready and are able to be booked for private events. That was not originally in the plan and only became available in February, clearly showing they don't know what they are doing and with the bookings open until the end of Sept, they are not going anywhere.
They are in the process of painting comedy warehouse in an effort to blend it in with their stupid celebration plaza thing. "Pay no attention to these empty buildings, come do the cha cha slide" is what they're saying. There is rumor they are planning more entertainment on the waterfront stage behind 8-trax. If that happens, we can NOT pay attention to the BACK side of the buildings...great!

Excellent work Mr Lansberry. You certainly deserved that promotion to VP of Transportation and Disney Sports and Golf Operations!

Of course now Virgin is closed(half a month early I might add) and is being completely disassembled. Rumor is starabilas is gonna close too and I wouldn't be surprised at all.

What are you celebrating? Urban Decay at DTD! All we need is a homeless person with a newspaper over him on a bench to complete the look!

There is a casting call for degenerate homeless, I am guessing they are looking for streetmosphere players. Pay no attention to the bum sleeping in the bushes.

Several deals for new restaurants fell through with a resounding thud when the economy tanked. Marketing for PI stopped years ago. The only way you could find out that AC was there were threads on boards such as these. Upper managment is barely even aware that PI closed. Don't count anything at PI to reopen to the public, that ship sailed.

I was just recently at Virgin Megastore and it's still open. I don't know why they would close, everytime I go in there, they are quite busy.

mostly because the entire chain of stores went bankrupt?

It has been so long since we have been to DSW that not only had Pleasure Island disappeared, but some attractions have even come and gone. I think it was about 1992 since we were there.

Well that I did not know. Either way, I was just there two weeks ago and bought myself a movie, poster and some CDs. I go there quite frequently actually with my fiance and brother. Ah well though.

While the virgin mega stores were great marketing, imagine how much you would have to sell to be profitable at DTD in a store that size... heck all the virgin mega stores were too big to stay afloat forever. I know several closed in the first round, the rest are now going. That is gonna be a hard space to fill at DTD
