Looks like some serious changes instore. I don't have enough posts to hyperlink or post web addresses so just go to orlandosentinal dot you know what and pics are on the front page.

For some reason, this quote in the article cracked me up:

And nothing says "not Disney" quite like a place where partyers wander from bar to bar with beers in their hands while loud music blares.

Apparently the Sentinal people have never been to the Food & Wine fest!

(And yeesh, we wander with Kungalooshes, not beer! Keep up, paper people!) :tilt:

In conjunction with WDW Poly Princess's quote, I found this part of the article particularly amusing:
"...father with children, Rivers said.
"He can walk through here, and if he wants to have a drink on the street, he doesn't feel awkward with his children, and you won't feel awkward either,"

I have to say that I am not in favor of the changes. I think Pleasure Island should be a kid-free zone. You are with kids all day long at Disney, and while I love kids, sometimes couples without kids, and even parents, want some time with other adults only! I have seen completely drunk people pushing strollers though Pleasure Island and that's just wrong. I like to be able to have a drink and go dancing, without worrying about keeping up appearances in front of children. Nuff said!

We enjoy all facets of WDW, PI included, by not giving a second thought to how we appear to others, child or adult. Assuming that by 'child' one means under 18 or even 21, it's a bit much to expect a 12 yr old with parent who enjoys the AC or CW to stay away from PI to spare the sensitivities of an 'adult'. The Plusses on the park pass of the 12 yr old cost as much at those for the 40 yr old.

I think Pleasure island could use a face lift. I also think that it's position is a problem because it seperates Downtown Disney and the Marketplace.

But I really liked it better when you needed an admission to get into Pleasure Island. The screenings at the gate kept un accompanied minors out of PI and also reduced the crowds some. Also it was alot easirer getting into the clubs without having to go through the pass machines.

I'd prefer them putting a moving walkway under PI to facilitate travel between Dowtown Disney and the Marketplace. Put back the gates and old admission policy. Make PI abit more family friendly by offering more outside concerts. Keep the idea that some clubs are open to all and some are 21+.

Whatever they decide to do, I hope they allow us access to Raglan Road without requiring admission! Since it's the first building, maybe a side entrance would be possible if they gate PI again. :sunny:

My favorite part of the article is the last line:
'You don't want to be drunk in front of a bunch of kids,' she said. 'You're going to be paranoid. You don't have to worry about that downtown.'

Yeah, nobody has ever been drunk in front of kids in downtown Orlando. Maybe she believes the story that all youngsters out at night in O-town are rounded up and put in IASW... :teeth:

I agree about PI's location being a big part of the problem- if you're trying to go from West Side to Marketplace, it's way easier to go through PI than around. Since I somehow doubt they can pick up West Side and PI and just swap places :tilt: I wish they could build a cool bridge or sidewalk or tunnel or some other themed way of getting from Point A to Point B without disturbing my AC!
