Pleasure Island Rumor

Well quite frankly, Disney only built Pleasure Island to compete with Citywalk. I love everything Disney and wont go to Universal as I just dont think it has great atmosphere. However, Citywalk is much better than Downtown disney.

Just curious, about this, I thought they built PI to get people to stay on property and spend their money on property instead of going to Church
Street Station. I don't know the timeline here? Anyone?

You are correct PI was there long before City Walk was.

Can anyone explain how you get into the clubs? Is there a charge per club?
I've been to WDW about 20+ times, and since the kids were young, my DH and I kept putting it off. Now, we'd like to try PI club scene. How does it work?

there is an one time entrance fee prior to getting into PI (about $21 or so - which is not bad compared to the prices of some of the clubs here in miami,fl), and then you can 'club hop' from club to club while you are in there. if you went to 8tracks and thought that it wasn't your speed, then you could go to one of the other clubs. or just walk around from place to place in there.

i went there once, this was when the entrance policy stated that you had to be 21 to get in. i am not really sure when they changed this to allowing children in. i think that this is wrong. a club is a club, whether it is on disney property or not. you wouldn't take your children to a regular club for your night out on the town why do it here? people will act the way that they do in a regular club when they are here, and why take a little child to that enviornment? for that, pay for one of the fairy godmother's to come babysit, then go out, the same way that most people do when they go out when they are at home. who wants to hear someone else's child whine that they are tired and want to go home, or throwing a tantraum, when i just left my children with a sitter to get AWAY from that stuff?

:confused3

That would bum me out. I've never been to the Adventurer's Club or Comedy Club, but I love 8 Trax and Mannequins. Every time we go, the clubs are packed...not sure what they mean about the attendance being down. Hopefully they won't close them!

I must admit that I had an encounter withthe seedier side of DTD this past summer. We were on the West side and I needed to take my 9yo to the bathroom--the ones that face SSR. Back behind there were a serious number of unattended youths that made the experience a little scary--smoking, swearing, harrasing the patrons as they came in and out of the rest rooms. I teach High School so I know kids being kids and this was not kids being kids. That said a few minutes after we left the bathrooms they were closed off and there were police. Not a really Disney Like experience, and I really had a creepy unsafe feeling about it. As for PI I love the AC and CC, don't think they need to do much with those, to put all restaurants in there would be a shame. I would really miss my adult evening out!

We had a similar experience over at City Walk at Universal. 3-4 "young men" followed my father (he's in his late 50's) into a rest room, while 2 waited outside blocking the entrance ...Ended up having to send my DH and DBIL in to save him. We reported it to security at US to find there had been a problem with muggings over there after the parks had closed....Now we don't go to City Walk in the evenings...I'll stay with Mickey, I feel alot safer with him.

My wife and I were in Orlando 2 weeks ago without our kids. We like to go out and have a few drinks and go dancing. I do not understand the $21 admission for PI.We used to go all the time but once Citywalk opened we have not been back to PI.Citywalk admission is $10-12 and that includes all clubs. The atmosphere at Citywalk is just better.PI almost seems run down to us.This time we also went to Church Street. There were more people and nightclubs than PI and Citywalk combined.

Disney should go back to closed admission, but reduce the price to $10. They would make a fortune.

Stupid question, but when they say "lake side of PI", are they referring to all the clubs on the left side (as you enter PI from Planet Hollywood)?

So, in other words, Comedy Warehouse, 8 Traxx, and Mannequins would all remain open, but the BET Warehouse, Adventurers Club and Rock N' Roll Beach Club all would close?

I think the problem with PI is simply that it's just not that entertaining.

You've got Marketplace which is beautiful to walk around, have dinner, an ice cream, shop. The Westside has the cinema, Planet Hollywood, the Virgin Store, etc.

PI is basically a place to go to drink, and why would you wanna spend $20 to do that, when you could drink for free at your resort or at the Boardwalk?

It looks like this is a pretty old thread :confused3 however...is this still a rumor or have they actually done away with the fireworks? We were hoping to see them in October and now my curiousity has peaked!

The fireworks were discontinued in January. There was a special fireworks show for Independence Day.

The stages and much of the old framework of the shops are being torn down and replaced. The clubs are still open.

Ok, hubby and I do have to do some clubs this trip before they all go away.

I wonder if it doesn't have to do with the fact that kids can roam free through there now and it isn't over 18 only type thing. I know when they did that change it turned a lot of people off so maybe they took their business elsewhere.

I was thinking the same thing. I was shocked to see children running around nightclubs at midnight! What kind of person takes their 8 year old to a bar?? People go there to drink and dance, kids do not need to be there.

The hours alone of PI dictate adult fun. Kids can't get into the Clubs so why allow them?

Kids can't get into the clubs? I saw more than one in 8-Traxx last year, and they couldn't have been more than 10 years old, tops. It killed my buzz, quick.

Here is my opinion: I have been to PI before and after 21. Both times I had similar experiences. I thought the dance clubs were seriously lame and loved the comedy club and the adventurers club. Our whole family went the first time and had a lot of fun at the two clubs. I think if people want to go get drunk ect. then they should do that at the many clubs in Orlando and Disney Pleasure Island should still be a place for families-maybe older families until a certain time at night. After that time then it can get mature.

That is the way it used to be. People were able to go in there and browse around until a certain time. after that it was blocked off for the "legal-aged crowd".
