Pleasure Island--is this inappropriate?

Hi everyone!
I don't know much about PI in DTD, so I need your advice. I was looking for something new to do on an evening of our upcoming trip. I was thinking about going to the Comedy Warehouse to see a show. We would probably go to the first show of the night, then leave PI to walk around.It would be my DH, DS13, DS10 and myself. I know this is an adult/teen hangout so that is why we would go early then leave this section of DTD. My kids would really love to see the comedy show, but I am not sure if it is appropriate to take them to this section of DTD. What do you think? I believe I need to get a wristband to get in----where do you get them? Thanks so much for any help you can give.

I suppose its all a mater of oppinion on what is appropriate for your kids.

Do you approve of drinking, or being around people who drink? Because you will be seing a lot of that even if it is in the early part of Pleasure Islands opening.

Comedy Warehouse is very tame. Sometimes there are a few jokes that would most likely go over kids' heads.

Same with The Adventurers' Club. It's a really fun, themed club, with cheeky humor and cabaret-style performances. The performers interact with guests, and I always find it fun.

I agree with Figment about the alcohol. Even though many folks at PI are there for fun without alcohol, there are still a lot of people (and some young adults in their twenties) drinking. You might feel uncomfortable about that. I am 25, and I don't drink, but I always have a good time at PI, and I see a lot of families there when I go.

If you decide to go, have a good time!

You will have no problems with the early shows at Comedy W. In fact I have heard very few inapropriate things at the later shows, either, but if you stick to the first couple you will be fine.

There are no problems at the Adventures Club either.

I don't think it's inappropriate at all.I think it's a purely personal decision on what your family is comfortable with.
The early shows are just fine. Even the later ones are kept very tame. Some of the audience shouts out things which you might not want your kids to say, but they won't be scarred for life from anything they hear either.
CW & AC are my son's (17 yo) favorite things to do in WDW now.

I personally would not take my 10 year old, but if it's comfortable for you, the early shows (as others have said) are pretty tame. It's more a problem with the crowd than it is with the shows. Young 'adults' tend to get pretty drunk there and both Adventurer's Club and Comedy Club can definitely become inappropriate later in the evening. But again, it's the guests, not the performers, who get out of line with their 'interactive commentary'.

We took our boys to Comedy Warehouse when they were 17 and 9. It was fine.

Would you want to buy wristband admissions just for one CW show? Seems like a lot of money to me for 45 minutes of entertainment. But that's up to you.

DH and I have Premium APs, which include PI club admissions. We spend PI evenings just going back and forth between AC and CW. And only going by what we have seen, guests have to buy PI admission to get into the CW. The AC is free, until 9pm.
Every early showing we have been to we have seen guests turned away without a wristband, at CW.

Personally if I was in your situation, I would spend the $ to take them to DQ and forget PI.

AC is a little more risque than CW. But that is not saying much. Kids probably hear and see far worse on TV, music videos and PC games.

I believe to get a wristband, guests have to pay their admission at the ticket windows before entering PI.
Since we have PAPs, our passes just get scanned at either club and the CM puts a wristband on us.

so some folks may say my opinion doesn't count on this subject. However, if I did have kids, I wouldn't take them to Pleasure Island...although the Comedy Warehouse is very tame. I don't think I would want my young kids around folks partying and drinking. That's just me, I don't condone those who take their kids to PI. To each his own.

Why not get in-room babysitting and have a night out on the town, or the island, with your husband???

My sister and I really enjoyed Pleasure Island many years ago when we were single it was the one place at WDW to be an adult only zone.
Now that I have a child I would not think of taking her to Pleasure Island it should be kept as the spot to go to for Adults only.

Personally I think the comedy clubs are absolutely fine for teens, especially the earlier hours. The 10 year old, I'm pretty sure I'd stick to the earlier hours.

It's up to you whether or not you have a problem with the kids being around people who are drinking alcohol.

I was at Pleasure Island in December 2005 and had not been there for at least 5 years. I really wanted to "do" Ragland Road and revisit the AC. _I_ would not worry as much about the shows at AC and Comedy Warehouse as the overall atmosphere. I was there VERY early (7:00 p.m.) on a WEEK night and I left by 10:00 p.m.

I'm really not a prude, but I'm going to be blunt/graphic.

The main walkway was clogged with 14-18 year old teens hanging all over each other, walking with thier hands on each others bottoms and doing plenty of open mouth kissing while draped on each other.

The large screen video screen blasts music and videos that you may or may not view as appropriate for your family. While eating at Ragland Road, I personally got tired of watching gyrating singers grab their crotches on the big screen.

On the street (closer to 9 p.m. now) there were two collge age couples, with one of each pair throwing up. On the way back to the bus stop, two benches each had someone throwing up over the back of the bench.

I'm confident that this is not the atmosphere EVERY night, but I was quite taken aback for it to occur so early in the evening on a weekday the first week in December.

Again, I wouldn't worry about the club content.....

We were at PI on a Friday evening 2/24 supposed to be "Party Gras." It was really very tame, and DS 17 was ready to leave by 11pm. We did enjoy the first show at CW and a little of the AC. I think DS sees more around the campfire at the church camp we frequent.

Hmm.....

I don't see a problem in the kids attending the early CW show. I usually attend the last show. but even then, I'm sure some of the jokes would merely go over their heads.

On the flip side however, I have thought on many occassions, how inappropriate it is for kids to be wandering around PI late at night with their parents and on occasion actually inside clubs (even motion! ). Ever since Disney "opened up" PI by allowing folks to wander through without a ticket all night, it seems to be an even more common occurance. I've got to say, i'm not a parent but if I was I, def. wouldn't take my kids through PI later on.

Jenny, PI's weeknights are very different from regular clubs etc. Cast members get in to PI free on certain week nights (used to be thurs and mon not too sure at the mo) and often, these nights are the busiest and craziest. I'm a former international CM so I know how crazy those nights can be. And because I don't drink, I can actually remember how crazy they are.

We went to the last showing of CW and I don't remember anything at all being inappropriate. It is a lot like Who's Line Is It Anyway? (one of my favorite shows - so I loved it). Weekends tend to be worse about crowds/drinking and CM night, but the last few times we went, it was much more tame since they have started allowing free entry on the street. There were a lot more families with children and I'd say the earlier you go, the safer you'd be and less they would see. You might want to talk to them before you go about the possibility of them seeing some things that are inappropriate, but it truly is just your personal preference. I agree with a previous poster that they probably see worse on TV and you will be with them for parental supervision.
