Pleasure Island - Here Today - GONE Soon?

I've been noticing that as well. Another odd thing I noticed (doesn't really have to do with that) has to do with the Island entertainment. Do you remember the 3-4 month span when they had that little sage set up by the CW? Not the big stage, but the tiny one by the tables in front of CW. Well, they used to have a guitarist there for four or five sets through the late afternoon and early evening right before the clubs opened. Last night, I saw one of those guitarists performing...in front of Wetzel's/Hagen Daz where the Petty car used to be. I spent the rest of the evening trying to figure out why they bothered.:confused3

You'll recall the previously discussed rumor that all of the dance clubs were closing except Mannequins and it was changing it's name to 8TRAX. Well the latest rumor is that Mannequins is staying where it is and 8TRAX is staying where it is. Both clubs will remain in business although they won't be owned by Disney. So under this updated rumor Motion will close and BET will close. No mention of Comedy Warehouse. (AC stays where it is and BET becomes the AC Restaurant.)

Brand new lit-up Mannequins mural upstairs right where you get off the elevator. Looks expensive. Disney continues to invest in the club.

Mannequins set an attendance record this past Thursday night. Friday and Saturday packed as well. Techno/Dance continues it's comeback as the masses grow weary of hip hop!

If there is one club that is nearly always crowded, even on the off-nights during the early and middle part of the week, it's 8TRAX. And as far as I know it's the only club in metro Orlando consistently playing old 70's disco hits. So I just don't understand why they would mess with it. Spruce it up.....sure. It's looking dated and I don't mean in a 70's way. But to change the format? I sure hope not! I'll have to check out the rumors over there this evening.

8Trax is a MUST for my boyfriend and me every time we visit! We dance & party there for HOURS!:cool1: That's what we'll really miss the most if PI closes/becomes more like DTD at Disneyland!

I would be completely satisfied if this rumor became true as long as the new owners of Mannequins and 8-trax keep it as it is or improve it, but do not drastically change it.

I agree since those are the two clubs I frequent the most. As far as I know, 8TRAX is the only 70's/80's club in Orlando and Mannequins is one of the few exclusively techno clubs in Orlando. The stuff they play at Motion and BET can be heard at every other club in town and neither has any unique ambiance.

The decision to keep these two open, if true, probably stems from the fact that they're in the same building and likely share electricity, water and a/c systems.

I feel for the employees though because they stand to lose their jobs and seniority.

that's a good point...they share the building so it makes sense to see them both stay open.

As for the employees, I agree! My friend has a full time job in IT and works at PI in ticketing only on the weekend. He is nearing the cut off to be able to "retire" and receive a permanent main gate pass. Hopefully if he relocates, it will be to an area where he can continue to work only weekends

WHAT??????????? HOW CAN THEY DO THIS?????? OH NO!!!!!!!!!! You know as a passholder they are going to have BIG problems with those people holding passes!!!!! That is one reason we invested in a pass!

What are they going to do with the site???

What else do you know??

Yeah, but the rumors said that 8TRAX and Mannequins were staying in business. I guess this does not rule that out if they're sold off and then reopened by another company, but this certainly doesn't look that way!

Makes NO sense to close them all. They are making LOTS of money out there!

passholders can get a prorated refund.

yee haw.

The rumor mill is getting louder and louder on this one..

I've already heard from a couple of sources that P-I wasn't accepting new 'group bookings' after June 1st..

And today comes this:

A rumor swirling around Lake Buena Vista says that P-I will be phased out in favor of ... exactly what we expected -- more branded experiences that will lease space from Disney..

Pleasure Island as we know it today will cease to exist by the end of this year... probably sooner.

This is coming from at least three sources right now..

As with everything -- until it's on Disney letterhead with a press contact you can never be sure.. but if Pleasure Island was on life support before now, I'd say you can get on the phone to call someone about last rites..

:(

Wow.. when I posted this rumor.. I didn't believe it would be as total or as quick as my sources were telling me..

Turned out to be true..

Now I'm going to look at all the other rumors I have gotten from those sources!

PS> Does this mean I now officially have a better track record than Jim Hill? :)

I got a text message from my friend in ticketing and posted immediately after that. With the date he gave I figured it was official, but I didn't realize there was already info on the website.

This just saddens me beyond belief. I can only say one thing, and that is I'm glad I got one more chance to dance in mannequins(they made me keep my shirt on:rotfl: ) one more chance at CW and one more chance at 8-trax where I have multiple sentimental connections.

Goodbye clubs and hello lame 3rd party restaurants. What a joke! I can't wait till the podcast team gets on a soapbox about this one! I remember the last "guest feedback" rant...this one should be real good:rotfl2:
