My 10 yr old DS and I celebrate New Year's Eve every year with streamers and apple cider. I thought it would be fun to take him to PI for all the hoopla at midnight. I understand that at night PI is mainly for adults but are there places within PI that are tame enough to take a child to? So far he only sees PG movies. If you were to give the Adventurer's Club a movie rating ( G, PG, PG-13, R) what would it be?

We have Park Hopper Plus tickets so cost is not an issue. I just don't want to regret what he sees or hears there.

Thank you for your opinions.

Well .... yes and no. If your main purpose of going to PI is to stick around for the NYE celebration and fireworks, then I would say no. By the time the fireworks get there, the Island is pretty much past "family hour." You'll see lots of people selling jello shots and other alcohol on the street, there will be a lot of partiers, lots of skimply clothes and dirty dancing -- it will be like taking him to a bar.

However, if you want to spend some time there just to see the place, then yes. Go early -- just when it opens -- and catch the first show at the Comedy Warehouse (early shows are family-oriented), or spend some time in the Adventurer's Club (early in the evening, you're probably at PG ... later in the night, it might get more raucous, but it will never get past PG-13). Rock & Roll Beach Club is pretty tame as well.

I've read tales of lewd behavior at PI in the later hours, but I've never seen any, darn it. Picture a typical mid to large sized American city on a Saturday night in the restaurant/tavern section and you've got the idea. As for the entertainment, nothing as racy as a Drew Carey episode. What you allow your sub-teen to see while under your control is a personal matter. I'd take him myself. As for clothing, he'll see less skin than that displayed at halftime of any college or pro football game I've seen recently.

If I were to rate it for my kids, assuming they were still younger, I would call it PG-13. There are some that call it G rated, with that, I don't agree. Primarily because it is a bar and I don't like seeing kids in a bar. JMHO and nothing more.

I've never seen skin or anything like that, but I have seen A LOT of very drunk people, particularly as the night wears on. And a lot of those people are very young, which seems to be worse for a child to see, IMHO. I mean, if a kid sees a drunk 45 year old, he's going to think the guy looks like an idiot. If he sees a drunk 22 year old, he may think he looks cool.

What about The Adventurers Club? My son is 8 and I'm seriously thinking of taking him in there for a while on our next trip. I think he would really like it. Personally, I don't really drink (I think I had 1 bottle of beer 4 years ago) so it would mainly be the shows and atmosphere. Of course, my son is very mature for his age and he knows that if he asks a hard question he gets an honest answer so I'm not really scared of him picking up bad behaviour. I doubt he will see anything worse than you can see on TV or is in a James Bond movie.

Am I right about The Adventurers Club PG-13 rating?

Call me stupid!!! I just returned from my first trip to WDW in January and spent several nights at PI. Not once did I see anyone under 21 there. They checked ID's upon entrance, so I just assumed that it was an Adults Only Park- you know, the only place to get away from it all.

I witnessed severe skin in every direction while there and several lewd acts, too. Well, I'm fine with them, but I'm guessing most people would call them lewd.

You might think twice about bringing your children to PI cuz the adults are not gonna really watch out for them like they would in a Park since most of them are a little wasted, smoking all sorts of things, and just trying to be on vacation with no worries.

We went there for the first time this past August. I would not bring young children there at night. It just doesn't seem right to me. My kids are teenagers and we left them at DQ for the evening. Just my opinion, but PI is really an adult place.

One of the drunkest people I ever saw at PI was the Adventurers Club and it was pretty early (I am not a late night person I have only made it to the fireworks ONCE!)

I was there when there were kids present and I felt the humor by 9 pm was more then I would subject my child to. You may feel different.

My theory is that kids need something to grow up to and if you give them all the toys early.....

To put a Disney spin on my answer.... think about Pleasure Island in Pinochio. hmmm naughty revelry, smoking, drinking, bad words, the works.. Not a place for little boys at all. I have a VERY mature 9 yr old. She is sometimes more adult than me lol. STILL I dont want her at a big block of bars and clubs.

I understand the thought though.. stick to seeing fireworks in the parks and then celebrate in the hotel room or something.

Think of PI at night like one big bar without a roof. There is no way I would bring my kids there at night. JMHO, it is not a place for kids. If it's fireworks you want, then there are plenty of other places for that. I'm sorry but I just can't understand why anyone would want to bring there children to an adult area when they are at WDW where there is plenty for kids to do. Once again, just my opinion and not meant to anger anyone. As parents, you are the ones that have to decide what you want your children exposed to and only you know what your kids can handle.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I had read somewhere several people took their kids to the adventurers club during the early hours and said it was very mild.

New Year's Eve also has an extra admission charge. It's pretty high. Your regular pass will not apply for admission that night.

If you're just talking about the regular "every night is New Year's Eve" at PI, there's really not much to that particular celebration anymore.

Several people take their kids to bars too, but, again, you are the parent, you do what you feel is right for your child.
They actually do make a big deal about noticing young kids at the AC and will ask the child "do your parents take you to bars at home?" and comments like that.
They tout PI as Disney nightime for adults. I would take my cue from that.

I took my kids to PI on our last visit and my kids loved the Comedy Warehouse. (Ages 13,14 &18) We went three nights. It was done like the show Who's line is it anyway (Which they love.) We always went to the first show and the things they see on tv are worse. They felt the adventures club was weird and we only went to that the first night. This club was more pg13 then the comedy club. I never felt out of place or like anyone was staring at us, but like I said we did go to the first show and always left before it got to late. Never did see the NYE fireworks there because they told me they seen enough fireworks at the parks. LOL My advice is to go early, enjoy the show then head out. and as someone mentioned don't pass up Disney Quest this is another great place for teens. Gina

Earlier in the evening , Adventurers club is okay , IMO for a kid. But by 9 pm, I would not want my neices to be there, or anywhere else in PI. It turns kind of rowdy and is not a place for kids.

Thank you to everyone who replied. If and that is a big IF, I take my DS to PI it will be very early in the evening. Believe it or not I feel that adults should have a place to party and children don't belong everywhere. That is why I checked this out before hand.

Again a giant THANK YOU!!!!!!!! You have all kept me from making a terrible parenting mistake.

Many times, it is. But you can't count on it. (IMHO, that's why you often see conflicting advice about this - people's experiences vary). The CMs may want to keep things G or PG for the earlier shows, but cannot control the guests. Some adults who visit will say and do things (even at the early shows) that many parents will not want their younger children to see or hear. Unfortunately, there is no way to know in advance what you will encounter.

Best wishes -

THANK YOU for realizing that kids don't need to be everywhere and that adults like a place to party.

It's been about 8 years since I've been to PI, but I wouldn't take a young child there. Pardon the expression, but after 9 p.m. it was a bump and grind festival!
