Pleasure Island - all six clubs closing.

Let me start by saying I could not do a trip to the World without goin to the comedy warehouse on the last night right before I left it was magic. and I will sadly miss that experience, and on my last trip in March I only made one show but It was magic because not only was I alone that night but they used everything I could throw at them in the show and it made my night it was true magic and now I could cry thinking of losing such a wonderful place to be cheered up when your having a bad trip or alone at at the world only twice did I go to the world alone but me and my gf have gone to many shows and I always wanted to be picked for audience ideas. So in closing bittersweet as my idea for the closing was used at my last show there very sad today to hear this news.

What happened to the possible recreation of Atlantic Dance into a Adventurer's club 2?

I've never even been in that building before.

I just read some more info that says they will have a design your own t-shirt shop sponsored by Hanes. That's not new, remember the old one. Also I find it hard to believe South American and Italian Tuscan are what families had in mind for dining options.

Reading the article, it suggests that all this is being done because "guests" want more things geared toward family entertainment and less geared toward partying and dancing.
Or are they just making that up??

Maybe they are making it up. They've done it before. But even if they are telling the truth, it's the same results I'm sure they got 5 years ago, 10 years ago, and before. They are changing now not because WDW has all of a sudden become a family destination. They are changing because they'd rather own a mall.

The problem we have, and the reason Disney doesn't pay much attention to us, is that when something doesn't specifically affect us, we shrug it off and say "so, I never went there".

Honestly, I don't visit the clubs either. But I don't at all like the idea of Disney just looking to sell/lease their property to other businesses. It's what they are doing with the Flamingo Crossing site, it's what they are doing with The Four Seasons, and now it's what they are doing with Pleasure Island.

It's a change in philosophy. The point isn't whether or not you or I care about a specific example of this, the point is that sooner or later they will do it with something you do care about.

First they came with the Goofy branded fruit slices.. but I wasn't a customer of the Goofy branded fruit slices..

And then they came with outsourced bell and valet staff at resorts.. but I didn't use bell and valet staff...

Then they came with the Four Seasons Development.. but I was not a customer of the Four Seasons..

Then they came with the Western Development land leasing.. but many of us didn''t understand the Western Development..

And then they came with a new concept for Downtown Disney.. but by then.. since it was obvious they didn't care about the brand anymore..

Neither did I...

Count me in. My goal is to take the money and open a new mannequins and 8-trax in Orlando.

Good. I got 2 others today too. That's 5. We only need 95 more investors.

Seriously, 8TRAX would be easy to recreate. There really isn't anything in the club that is unique enough to not be able to replicate. No one in Orlando is playing 70's, yet that's what draws the crowds from all age groups. There are some clubs with 80's nights but no one mixing the two that I'm aware of. My plan is to name it 7TRAX.

But Mannequins is much harder to replicate because of that darn floor. Really the whole popularity of the place is the floor. Not a Saturday night goes by that I don't see people walk up to the floor and stop, stare and say, OMG, the floor is moving! We need that floor. We need the music, sure, but we need that floor! But according to DJ Peapod, the floor may not be available. He heard Mannequins was going to become the Harley Davidson Restaurant and they were going to put motorcycles out of the floor and have them revolve around for the kids to ride!

He was just kidding...........I HOPE!

Also I find it hard to believe South American and Italian Tuscan are what families had in mind for dining options.

More to he point, as far as anyone seems to know, the South American place is going in the old "Missing Link" building, and the Tuscan restaurant is just a redo of Portabello Yacht Club. Two new restaurants, neither going into any of the seven empty clubs.

I really like your thought process here...and ok, maybe I'm missing the joke. But in all seriousness, will $100k even buy a liquor license in Orlando? To say nothing of real estate costs, start-up inventory, wages to train your staff...$100k is a real low-ball number for a new club.

Well I'm at least half serious. There surely are some wealthy people out there that already have liquor licenses that could recreate what's closing. But I'm not seriously thinking of hunting down 100 people myself. I might have better luck organizing a rally of PI supporters to meet at the corner of Hotel Plaza Blvd. & SR 535 and get this in front of the media. The protest signs could read:

"SAVE PI"
"NO COMEDY CLUB NO FUN"
"MICKEY HATES ADULTS"
"SAY NO TO MORE STORES"
....well, you get the idea!

Rats, it sounded like a good idea--just afraid you'd need more like 1,000 people rather than 100.

If you get a rally going, let me know, I'll be there and will try to bring some non-DISers as well.

Well I'm told that the revolving floor can't be removed without tearing down the entire building. So that means either Disney is tearing down the entire building or there is a future dance club in the same space.

I think $100,000 could go a long way. Liquor licenses are expensive but I believe when it's a combination restaurant/bar they're easier and cheaper to get. A 70/80s club would be a hit if located in the right space but then if the Mouse suddenly reopened 8TRAX, there goes the business!

I think a rally/protest would definitely bring out the local media if they were given advance notice. Unfortunately I've got no experience at organizing such things. But protesting on that public sidewalk right next to that large Walt Disney World entrance wall would sure make for great television news!

Or the other option(s).. you incorporate it into whatever goes into that space or simply.. (gasp) build over it and pretend it's not there.

And that could happen in the most unexpected way.

You're on the right track here. As a member of the media, I can assure you that anything that makes great visuals, makes the TV news.. for radio, great audio .. (chants are good!)

Seriously.

I remember way back in the day I helped dry-fall spray a ceiling of a restaraunt and the inspection alone for that job was like $14,000.

$100,000 will get you nowhere. You are looking at a couple million easy to just get a place opened.
