Please, WHY is this happening to us?

Oh....you cancelled....that's too bad. :( I too have cancelled one for October, but for different reasons.

Maybe you can make a little bit of Disney that week at home in some sort of inexpensive way to make you feel a bit better. (watch Disney videos; make Disney meals; play Disney games.....)

I think Pat Elliot had to do just that sort of thing when he & his expecting wife had to cancel at last minute recently due to pregancy complications. Maybe search way back for some ideas ???

Good luck....... he will find something. And it will be all worth it. Then you can REALLY enjoy a trip! :)

Unfortunately, in this area, temp agencies are the only way anyone is getting a tech job anymore.

I work in a NOC and we only hire people through temp agencies and we're looking for people with CCNA. How wide of a search is he looking? Whereabouts in MA are you? Has he tried looking for jobs in RI ? I know Manpower and Wilmark are good temp agencies.

Jenn, he has broadened his search outside of the Northeast at this point to see what is out there. He actually had a lengthy interview (2nd interview) with a company in Pa. last week, but has not heard back yet.
He is open to anything right now, temp. or perm. We live on the South Shore and would definitely travel to RI. He actually had an interview with a recruiting company in Providence last week. He is a Systems Analyst/Systems Manager and has worked in high pressure environments. Would you be willing to take a look at his resume? Thanks again.

I would seriously have him check out Wilmark's website. and look on www.projo.com
We just hired everyone we need at this time, but I will let you know if someone doesn't work out. We have a large turnover - it's the nature of working in network operations.

I don't know if this is possible for him or not, but recently, the OCC, FDIC, etc., passed a law requiring all banks to setup IDS systems and to conduct at least annual security audits. These must be done by a third party.

If he has any expertise in this arena, he may be able to get someone to hire him as a consultant. Smaller, community banks often don't have fully staffed IT departments.

If his expertise is not in security, maybe he can prepare a document that shows the areas in which he can save IT dollars for a mid-size company, whether it be as an on-staff employee or as a consultant. If he pitches himself this way, maybe it's the angle that he needs instead of applying for a traditional job.

I'll say some prayers for you, too.

Funny thing is, when I was looking for someone in my IT department, I got a ton of resumes and only a few good ones. There is something out there for him, and God does everything for a reason... usually to make us better off in the long run.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to you. Dh lost his job last June, 3 months after having our second child. He is a computer programmer. Things looked very scary...we ended up taking a job that paid less and moved from Michigan to Florida. We are still not on track yet, but we will get there. Stay strong. Are you able to relocate or are you trying to find local? We found the Internet very useful in the job search.

Jillpie,
Am so sorry for your DH. Temp agencies and internet sights are what I tried when I was out of work. I finally did get a job 3 weeks ago (I miss being on the CB board during the day with "the gang", but alas, had to go to work!) and I got the job on the website thru the CA Unemployment Agency. I did take 1/3 pay cut and have to drive 30-40 minutes, but it's ok. The website is free to the employers and they had 2-3 new posting each week for my field. In order to collect Unemployment here, you have to register on their site and check it periodically. Do they have something like that in your state? Don't fret about the vaca, it isn't very fun when your mind is preoccupied. Am sending pixie dust and only good thoughts your way. I am sure something will come up very soon! Hang in there, it will all come together:)

I don't know why you are having to go through this trial, but I hope it passes soon. My DH has gone through periods of unemployment in our marriage and I know it is extremely tough on everyone. Perhaps this struggle will bring you all closer together as a family as you figure out a way to get through this.

Prayers and PD for your family. I have a friend whose husband recently lost his IT job. His company closed up shop here in FL. They offered him a job with them in Ohio, but they weren't willing to move. He was expecting to pick up a new job easily since he never had a problem before, but it's taking some time.
