Please tell me more about the Boneyard ~ we will be traveling with DD 3 & DD 1½ & friends with DD 3½ & DS 2½, is this something they all will may enjoy, what have been your experiences, how much time should we plan here, any advice? Also, please don’t hesitate to provide any of your AK tips? As Always Thanks So Much!!!

The Boneyard is a good place for your kids to run around and blow off steam - although with their ages, it won't be relaxing for you! Its fun if its not too crowded - you'll have to follow them cuz there are places for them to climb and I was worried my son, 2 and a half at the time, would fall off. But it was great for them to climb and stretch their legs after a long time in the stroller. Take the bridge across the walkway to the sand pit area (forgot what they call it). I really liked walking barefoot in there - its all tiny pebbles, not messy sand, and they can dig and uncover stuff.

Allow at least a half hour - its a good time for someone to watch the kids while others go on the Dinosaur ride nearby (NOT for young kids!!!).

Have fun!

If the kids like playgrounds, they will definately like the Boneyard. There's various things to climb on/slide down. There are dinosaur footprints in the ground that make "dinosaur noices" when the kids stomp on them (my nephews really got a kick out of that). Also, it's fairly open in there, and very easy for the adults to follow the kids around.

There is also an area where kids can "dig" for dinosaur fossils. (My neice loved this area at age 4)

They are the perfect ages for this! Think of it as a playground at a park - only themed to an archaelogical dig! There is a very small cave to run in and out of, crates to hide in, a safari jeep to sit in a steer, a small slide and such.

There are bigger slides, too, but the little ones can skip that part if they seem too big. (I think my 2 1/2 year did like the slides, but I can't remember. I've taken three trips and the kids have ranged from 8 months - 4 yeard old...)

Definitely stop by - it's a nice break (for the kids LOL like the other poster said, you won't be breaking b/c you'll be trailing the little ones, but it is fun!). It's never been *too* crowded when we've been there (in Oct. and May). Hope that helps!

Enjoy!!

At that age my kids loved to dig for dinosaur. It is a semi covered area with misters, the best part and is that they dig in very very small pebbles not sand so it does not stick all over them.
Great place to relax and cool down a little bit.

My DS loved the place, he got to play and I got to relax for a while. Just be prepared if you if they don't want to leave, I saw a few kids throwing a fit because they had to leave. Here are a few pics of the place.

I agree your kids are the perfect age for it!! We took our boys to it last year, they were about 3.5 and 1.5. They had a blast!!

dcg0317-GREAT pix!! :)

We took my boys at ages 1 + 3, then at ages 2 + 4 to the Boneyard and they loved it. You do have to be very vigilant and spry to chase them all over the place [I know there is only one exit and it is "manned" by a CM but I do not take my eyes off my kids. Period.], but once they find the Dig Site you can sit in the shade and watch them in the sand.

I do recall being pretty hot when we went there in the afternoon, so the next year I insisted we hit it by late morning, after the Safari and Kali.

My kids, 20 months and almost 3 on the last trip, loved it!!!! It is a great play area and DH and I each trailed one of the kids and even enjoyed it ourselves. We probably spent a half hour to 45 minutes there.

My kids really enjoyed it except DD 2 1/2 was afraid of the dinosaur noises. So the pictures I have are of her covering her ears!

Consider it an attraction and give it equal amount of time as any other attraction (assuming the kids are enjoying it). I heard one Mom dragging her kids away saying that they had playgrounds at home and they weren't going to waste their time there.

Great pictures too!

I agree that with kids that young, it might be kind of difficult to keep track of them. There are so many nooks and crannies where they can hide. (We "lost" our littlest DS - age 2 at the time - when he decided to follow big brother up one of the big slides and we didn't realize he had followed him. . . they are so quick at that age! I have to say, though, that as soon as he was "missing," we told a CM who immediately helped us find him. WE LOVE CM's!!)

Having said that, I still think it's a great place to take little ones and let them run around. Personally, I think for the little kids under 5, the area where you can "dig" in the sand and find the bones would be the best. I know our kids always like going there (last time they were 3 and 6) and they dug around for over half an hour. DH and I liked it too because we could just sit on the rocks right by them, in the shade, and take a rest. :)

Ever see any adults playing in there? Sounds like someplace I might enjoy trying out for a while. However, since I'm a grandmotherly aged woman, I don't want to stick out too much! But after all-"It's Disney-What happens in Disney World stays in Disney World!"

I have played in the digging area with my kids and I've seen plenty of other parents and grandparents doing the same. I guarantee you that on our next trip (we're going with DH's folks), grandma and grandpa will be digging right with them :)

I agree that if it's hot, it can be brutal in there in the afternoon. Do early or save till later.

Also for young children, take some time to explore the trails and look at the animals and birds.

The train to conservation station leads to a petting zoo and is a great trip to rest a bit.

Right at the front of the park are more small "hidden" trails with fish and and other exotic bright birds and animals.
