Please tell me if there is a problem with my plan

I am a current member with 225 points and joint ownership with my significant other at SSR. She thinks I’ve gone DVC crazy (imagine that...haha), so I purchased a second contract at Poly in my name only. I’ll pay all the fees, but I get to manage it (book, sell, trade). I also paid for the entire contract (we do banking separately). This is all fine and on the up-and-up. My Poly resale contract is still waiting for the current owners to return their contract. I’ve already submitted mine with all the closing funds. Both SSR and Poly have an Oct UY, so if necessary, I’m planning to just do a once a year transfer of my Poly points to my SSR joint contract. In the end, they should all be able to be used the same (I know SSR and Poly have their own 11 month window) and act like they were purchased under one member number, correct? This allows me to handle all the responsibility of the Poly contract while still merging it with the SSR contract if beneficial.

My question is this: I want to add on 50 more points to what will be my Poly account. I don’t have a separate membership number yet, but I do have a current membership under SSR. Can I ask for 50 points direct and use those points to establish a new member number? Then, when the Poly contract hits the system, I will ask for it to be married with the 50 point member account (not the 225 at SSR). I want to make sure I don’t get three member numbers, as all with have a use year of October. However, I like the idea of having the two. Please tell me what you think I can and cannot do under the scenario I provided. I know - the easy thing is just to wait for the Poly contract to establish its own member number and add on then. However, even if the Poly contract goes south, I’d still like to add on 50 points with the Oct UY under a separate member number, so it’s kind of immaterial in that respect. It’s just an order of operations issue. Thanks!

If you don't want three member numbers, I would wait until resale completely clears and then add direct with that member number. If Disney messes that up, it will be easy to fix.

You only get one transfer per member number.

You used to be able to bank transfered points, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that rule change, or even the transfer rule. I wouldn't do this expecting any of these rules to stay the same. Disney has been very clear about changing the rules at will.

You could also change the ownership of the SSR to just you, and then they'd all be your contracts, with the same member number.

Edited to remove what Sandisw corrected!

You only get one transfer per member number, so you could either transfer the Poly points or the direct points, and not both.

Thanks! I’ve also thought about adding my significant other to the Poly contract if she comes around to the idea. She’s on board with the 225 at SSR. After that, she says it’s up to me. I know I definitely want to add the 50 to a separate member number (whether that’s 50 direct without Poly or wait for Poly to establish the 2nd member number and then add). The second member number may create some difficulties (versus one overall) but they are the same use year and should be for desperate trips altogether. In that sense, it’s easy to manage. Plus, it keeps a happy house...haha.

You can get exceptions but often they want you to have some certain minimum for an entirely new membership which is what they would look at it like it in this case and I think that is more than 50 pts. Patience.

I agree with others that being this will be a new membership, they may not allow you to do the 50.

However, I’d still call and ask. It is certainly easy to add that membership number to the document of the Poly resale so they end up under the same one,

It would be no different than when you add on under the membership you have.

If they do allow it, then just be sure to add the number to the closing documents.well, have the title company do it.

Since you are waiting for sellers, you could also ask the title company not to close it until you at least have a chance to call DVD to ask.

You will already get a separate membership number once the Poly resale is completed and points are added because it’s titled differently. The only caveat buying direct before your resale is added is something I’m dealing with now is if you plan to spread out the new purchase over the 90 day courtesy they will give you when you buy, until it’s paid in full they won’t add the resale contract to the membership since it technically doesn’t fully exist until it’s paid off. I’d wait the few weeks until your resale is created, that way you can take advantage to the extended payment option of buying direct. The dues are prorated direct and they don’t become due until the contract is paid in full so technically you get another 90 days of prorated dues too 😊

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. I think the right answer is just to wait. I’m just impatient. I don’t want to mess anything up.

I want to make sure I understood you correctly. I have 4 small contracts under the same membership#. If I did want to transfer points to someone else, the most I can transfer then would be the total amount left in one of the 4 contracts?

You get one transfer in our out of your membership per UY. They have recently begun to allow owners of multiple memberships to transfer between themselves more than once and not count it as the official one.

If you wanted to transfer points to another owner, then you can transfer as many points from your account to that one owner from which ever contracts you have. They points can not be already banked or borrowed.

So if you have 4 contracts in one membership, you can transfer them all at the same time to another owner. Number of contracts does not matter. Only memberships.

The ability to transfer is part of the POS and can not be eliminated.

Just like renting can not be eliminated as it too is part of the contracts.

Now, the terms of the Home Resort Rules and Regulations are subject to change which is why they were allowed to change borrowing to 50%.

I’d have to read the contract again to see if the banking of transferred points is part of that or just the home resort rules document. If it’s in the POS than that too can not be eliminated.

I would think of transferring points as a possible solution to a problem, but not as something I would want to do every year. For one thing, when you transfer points, the points are not visible in your account. You need to call Member Services to use them. This could be a problem if you are trying to book at exactly 11 months out for a popular time. (Someone correct me if I am wrong. They may have updated the system to handle transferred points better).

I'd also have to verify but if memory is correct it is mentioned that transferred points can be banked.
