Please tell me I wasn't bamboozled

Last year we wanted to do a minimal purchase in Aulani (50 points) to add to our 400 AKV points (I have a big family) so we would be able to get home resort booking privileges with Aulani. When we contacted our agent we were told we would only get the 11 month booking privilege on the actual points purchased in Aulani and the 400 we have with AKV could only be booked in the 7 mo window. Made sense to me, so we dug deeper in the pocket and purchased enough points to get us a 6 day vacation in Aulani every three years.
Now, I am reading the DIS boards and it seems like people are booking vacations using minimal add ons to get home resort privileges (my original plan). Please tell me I wasn't bamboozled and the agent steered me correctly.

BTW, this is important because I am toying with adding a few more points to my Aulani membership so we can get an ocean view rather than an island view.

It is not happening. Only points for a specific resort can be used 11 months out at that resort. That has always been the rule and nothing has changed.

Your guide did not mislead you. You can not add minimal points at one resort and then use all of your points from other resorts at 11 months to book there.

The information is correct that home resort priority is still in affect no matter how many resorts you own when calling more than 7 months in advance.

People add 50 or so points at another reosrt for the home resort booking window BUT they may not want to go to that resort annually. So a 50 point contract, using banking and borrowing, would yield 150 points for the home resort booking window every 3 years. That may be what the OP saw being posted.

Geez, if that were true, I would buy a minimal contract for every resort and get 11 month booking at all of them.
