I read on another board that a family stayed at POR discovered a hypodermic needle in their room left behind by a previous guest and after speaking to the manager it took them ten hours to come and dispose of it using safety precautions. Shouldn't they send someone immediately as this can be a serious health hazard. I read such great things about the resorts but when I read something like that I find no excuses for disney. I worry about my kids and wonder about Disneys standards. Is this beacause it is a moderate resort. I know nothing can be perfect but I would think Disney can do better.

At the very least, I would be skeptical of this story. I've been to WDW numerous times & have never experienced anything like this. That being said, WDW is still part of the real world (I know it's hard to believe!). I take my family to WDW because it's family-oriented, safe, & magical. To answer your question, NO, WDW isn't like that! The moderates I've stayed at have been very nice. Disney excels at cleanliness & appearance.

Try not to worry. We all keep hearing these horror stories about WDW. I'm getting ready for my 6th trip (very minor league compared to some here!!) and I have never encountered anything like that at all. Maybe a few dust bunnies but no decaying food, blood on the bedspread, mucus in the sink etc. Now, I'm sure that "things" happen in life but I can't get all worked up over it.

So, stop fretting and have a wonderful time. We love POR. It's a terrific resort.

This September was my 20th trip to WDW and the 16th time staying on property. I have never had a negative experience at any of the resorts I have stayed at - value, moderate or deluxe. The rooms have always been clean. I am sure that occasionally there are incidents that occur where mousekeeping misses something and the next guest to occupy the room has to call and complain, but this can happen anywhere. It is bound to happen. I don't think you should spend time worrying about this.

Our experience was almost as bad as that horror story. We had a burned out lightbulb that they didn't fix for 5 full minutes!!! Those standards are definately slipping, don't you think?

Not only have we never experienced anything of this nature in our ten visits to the world, but sometimes the service we've received has been too fast! A few times we've requested items or services (extra hangers, a fridge, bell services) that came so fast, we had to re-dress! (Thought we'd have more time than we did to freshen up and get dressed!!!!) No need to worry; have a great time!

While thankfully we have never experienced anything as scary as that, we did have some issues at the Poly last summer. We had 2 rooms. Upon checking in 1 had a dirty toilet and red sticky stuff(medicine?) in the drawers. When we were packing up to leave and I was checking under the day bed in the other room, I found goldfish crackers...something we hadnt eaten during our stay. When I checked the top of the bed to see if anything had fallen down there, I saw potato chips squished there...another thing we hadnt eaten in our room. Im just thankful they didnt draw bugs as the bugs would have been crawling on my head in my sleep.

When we went with our daughter, who is diabetic and needs insulin shots twice daily, they provided us with a "sharps" container to put the syringes into.

As ferrethome mentioned, they do have sharps containers available at all the resorts, so if anyone did find a syringe that needed to be disposed of, it would be a simple matter to bring a sharps container and dispose of it.
