Please tell me about the Downtown Disney Double Tree Suites

DH doesn't like any of the onsite options that are within our budget (value resort rooms) and would prefer not to incur the expense of renting a minivan so I am starting to look into reasonable offsite options that would work for us. I like the Double Tree Suites because we are used to staying at hotel properties like this (Hilton or Marriott brand hotel suites), the suites look very spacious (All Ears website says they are 608 square feet), the price is great, and you actually only have one pull out sofa to deal with (DH didn't like that there were multiple pull out sofas and only one real bed at the Disney All Star Music family suite). I like how the Double Tree Suites is in DTD so we would still be "on Disney property", it is within walking distance to DTD, and they offer shuttle service to and from the parks. I have read so so reviews about the shuttle service though. I know it is not as efficient as the Disney resort buses, but I would think it would be better than other offsite options since it is in DTD, right? Would this hotel be a good option for a family with young children and how good (or bad) is the shuttle service? Thank you :thumbsup2

I would like to know as well. Especially since I JUST booked a room for 6 nights for Thanksgiving. I read some reviews on Tripadvisor and it seems like a good hotel, but I would love to hear from the people on this forum. Is the dining plan available for those staying here? I hope so because we want to do at least two character meals and find that the DDP is the right choice since those character meals are quite pricey.

Go to the hotel review section of this forum and read my review! We just got back this week and LOVED it! So many good things to say! And feel free to PM with any questions!

I have priced out the Doubletree Suites before, and you need to be aware that they charge for extra people, it isn't just a flat rate. You would also need to pay for a shuttle from the airport to your resort, and back again.

There is a web site just for all of the DTD resorts. Go to downtowndisneyhotels.com You will get tons of into on all of the DTD resorts.

I just popped over there, and it looks like you can get a great advance purchase price for the suite. Which means you couldn't cancel it. But it would only be $79.00 a night, before taxes. The beds are double beds though, fyi. But that is a great price.

Unfortunately no. This hotel is not a Disney owned hotel, so you would not be able to purchase the Disney Dining plan. You would have to pay out of pocket for character meals. Also, the Downtown Disney hotels have their own bus system, they are not Disney's resort buses. I read that they run every 30 minutes but I am not sure what their reliability is, which is my primary concern since we don't want to rent a vehicle. We are keeping this hotel in mind as a plan B right now. I really like it as an offsite option since it is in the Downtown Disney area; but we really want the convenience of the dining plan and reliable buses to the parks.

I don't think most people would consider it within walking distance to DTD, but it can be done if you have the time and the weather cooperates. You are much closer there to the Crossroads shopping center.

We stayed at the Hilton DTD, which uses the same bus line (also shared with Holiday Inn and the place next to that), and were quite pleased with the buses. Every one we rode showed at its appointed time, and they run until 90 minutes after park closing, and begin one hour prior to park opening.
