I think I saw somewhere that it is $7.95 to press pennies.  Is this the price for as many pennies as you want to press  or price per penny :scared:or do I just have the whole thing all wrong :rotfl: ?

You do have the whole thing wrong. :goodvibes

Each pressed penny costs 51 cents.

Oh, I think I know where the confusion came from! You can buy a pressed penny album for 7.95.

You can also press quarters for $1.25 (4 quarter charge + 1the pressed quarter back). I find that they are a bit too rich for me. We stick to the pennies. My DD loves doing pressed pennies so we have quite the collection now.

Good tip if you're going to do the pennies....

Preload a small container ahead of time with your change. The ones that Airborne come in are the perfect size. Load it with 2 quarters and a penny, 2 quarters and a penny... and so on. That way when you find one you want, it's quick and easy to find the change you need.

On our last trip we kind of made the penny presses our "thing". We were all into Hidden Mickeys but when we got there, we realized that finding those could be very time consuming! I think I ended up coming home with 25-30 pressed pennies. It was almost a contest of who could find the presses first. We had so much fun. All but two countries in Epcot had them and most rides have one. I know that Nemo, Test Track and Rockin Roller coaster were quarter presses. We also tried to get every princess and the fab 5. They look great in the scrapbook!

It really was a highlight of that trip!!!

Just be aware that if you are flying, those containers look pretty strange to TSA officials when going through airport security :rotfl: I labelled the outside of my 2 M&M minis containers "pressed penny money" and "Laundry money" which they saw and realized everything was legit but they were examing the xray machine for several minutes as well as inspecting the containers by hand.

What a great idea!! Thanks for sharing!!

we did pressed pennies when were were there. Yes, the album was 7.95. But the pennies are 51 cents. They do have pressed quarters but we didn't do those. This was one of DD's favorite activites while we were there. Every place we went she looked for the machines.

We use Mini M&M tubes.

Mini M&M tubes age great, but they can get a little heavy. Film canisters work perfectly. They can be hard to find, though. I saved a few of them.

If your mall has a Ritz camera or you live near any retail film processing place (Walgreens, Walmart, Target) just ask for film canisters any time you stop in. We've managed to collect quite a few for other purposes and they happily hand them over for free. :thumbsup2

That's what we do w/ the M&M tubs, alternate 2 quarter & a penny till it's full. DD loves doing these, we got her the book to keep them in last time.

If you're interested, there is a great web site that lists all the pressed coin machines in DisneyWorld, including the resorts.

The link is : www.presscoins.com

I keep on listing as my master list and then copy it each time we visit the world - then as I get new coins I can mark them off on the copy. When I get home, I update the master list

A couple of tips I learned.
1) Try and find older pennies. Newer pennies have an alloy core in them and can look like a smudge on the penny when they are pressed. I can't remember right now when the pennies changed.
2) Clean them up before you go. That way you can enjoy your nice shiney, pressed penny right away

Is it easy to find the pressed penny books at the park? I was thinking about ordering them on ebay before we left but now there isn't enough time. We leave in 6 days!

Its a great thing to do. My 6 yr old daughter has one penny book already done. Here's my tip. we only brought down enough for 20 pennies thinking that that would last a few days, in fact because every machine has three diffrent ones we went through that in the first day and i was making change every where I went. This trip i will be bringing lots more!

Are the penny presser machines the automatic ones, or the ones that let you turn the crank handle yourself?

I'm kind of partial to the hand-cranked ones, but it's a lot of effort for small children.
