PLEASE,,,,,Stop calling Riviera an EPCOT resort.

Sorry, just hit reply to put my thoughts in. Nothing really pertaining to your post, so I've removed it!
No worries - was just concerned I may have said something unknowingly which sparked some animosity in the discussion. Your post was a good read though - so hope you bring it back in some form.

It's still there. I left the post, just removed your "Replied to" part.

Yes, I think that this thread is a fun read. At first I thought that this was one of the most pointless discussions I've seen (I mean does it really matter if someone considers RIV an Epcot resort or not? It is what it is...), but it's turned into a fun discussion of what everyone likes or dislikes. As I said, we all like different things for different reasons and it is fun to get to see how others think differently. For instance, we always drive to WDW and until I was reading through others posts (not necessarily this thread) do you realize that those who fly in may have a completely different perspective and vice-versa. And that is just one example. We all have so many different things that we prioritize that it is interesting to see what those are for everyone...

Absolutely agreed, to that point, as much guff as SSR gets, it’s my hands down favorite because I golf and we drive (no pun intended) to WDW. The Treehouses are easier on the points on our larger family trips as well - Secluded pool, private decks, and low traffic. To the Cabins and Bungalows - maybe one day. :)

I wouldn't even call them similar. MK, yes. But does CA have Epcot, AK, Studios, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon lagoon, Disney Springs (dumbest name change ever and kind of offensive), or all the resorts? No, it does not. One is a 2 day trip; the other is at least a week.
I like the Disney Springs name
I liked it when it was called Lake Buena Vista market place….. never really liked the downtown name….

The ace And queen of heart are similar and have very little in common….

If you don’t think CA and Florida are even remotely similar, I think it only goes to further my point.

So thank you

And the wonderful murphy beds. Plus walk over to DS for food, drinks and shopping. All about that. Right now my 2 fave resorts are RR and SSR. Hands down.

We actually ask for the treehouses on the path to the boat - lovely little ride to DS and back - and if we are out a little too late - then its a rideshare right to our doorstep in a Minnie Van no less :)

Ah, youngsters can't hang onto the trash talk anymore like they used to. SSR hung in there for 16 years until DVC ruined it with a good refurb. In some circles it's still going strong. Riviera is still just a baby in the game.
Haha, yes, clearly there's plenty of hate to go around for any resort, old and new. I forgot as I hadn't been on the DVC side of these boards in a while 😂

I will say of the DVC resorts we have stayed at so far, BLT was by far my least favorite (except for the extra bathroom in the 1BD) - this is of course entirely subjective on my part.

Seeing a few on here saying this has me worried. We stayed at AKL, SSR, and Beachclub for our DVC "Welcome Home" stay, even though we bought at Riviera, and AKL was cool, SSR had nice rooms but the resort itself was our least favorite, and Beachclub needed updates which it's getting, but otherwise was great. Then we stayed last November with friends at RIV, and it absolutely ruled, the two bedroom was perfect and the skyliner was great, I expected to find things to hate based on people on the board, but couldn't find any (other than the pool area is boring).

All that said, we are going in September and decided to stay at BLT, but seeing all the BLT stuff makes me think it's going to be the worst of the bunch. Hopefully not... We mainly decided on this because we are doing not so scary and the villains lair, so it seemed like an obvious choice.

For what it's worth, we like BLT much better than RIV, but again, that's personal preference...

Interesting my BLT stay was split welcome home stay with Grand Floridian. As it happens, we are staying at the Riviera in three weeks - so looking forward to it.

I think as people have suggested, it is highly subjective and your needs and tastes may not be the same as others and only you can decide that for yourself. BLT is very popular with a lot of people in the DVC community - which is why we gave it a try in the first place. Its a great location to MK and with a decent pool and other amenities for a tower type setup.

We had a 1 BDR with the extra bathroom which I am sure is real helpful to a lot of families, but I felt the rooms were a bit dark and styled in a dated way that I didn't really connect with . As we were on the inside tower facing the other inside tower - for what was supposed to be a "Lake View" - it left a bit of salty taste in our mouths - we were apparently unlucky in the room assignment pool due to low transfers out on that day.

The building style itself is a bit uninspiring on the inside side of the tower with floor after floor and room after room to look at from the balcony (which is only off the bedroom) with a wall that prevented us from seeing the lake. Again, I think we got caught up in all of the rave reviews of BLT - but maybe just didn't feel the love ourselves.

If you read a couple of the posts that point out that every resort has it's detractors you'll recognize that BLT is just one of those. My family (and I) love it. Last stay was there in late Oct/Nov last year. It's getting to be on the long end of refurb time - should have been getting it's 1st full refurb this year. It has had a soft goods refurb though since opening. Our room was in very good condition.

Basically - take any hate such and such resort, and actually any love such and such resort worth a grain of salt. They are all opinions and differences of what we are looking for in a resort.

On Riviera you really did not dig deep enough as it has more detraction points for some than just the pool.

Cool, yeah I’ve only been in contemporary after we stopped there from the monorail. It wasn’t anything amazing but not bad either. Will know once we spend our time there, we are there from September 15th-20th

Really not sure what more digging I would have to do at riviera though, we stayed there for a week. I feel like you would have to be dead set on finding things to complain about beyond the pool. Every resort we have stayed at, so far, has had more negatives than Riviera. But for some, like Beachclub, a big part of that is just needs refurb. SSR is hopeless (for us) and we will never stay there again.

We are enjoying resort hopping though, and I want to be clear that aside from SSR, none of the resorts have felt “bad”. It’s basically like picking from a desert tray. Each one a different combination of flavors but all of them good.

Sorry if I overlooked your past contributions - I will endeavor to share the love better :)
Thanks, basically kidding but found it funny there was no reply. I guess some have a hard admitting they are wrong. Amazon prime crashed their website on Prime Day much like Ticketmaster crashes theirs every time a major show goes on sale. So crashing websites on busy days is not just a DVC thing.
As the comment about YC/BC guests using Epcot buses after the fireworks are over made, no sense and still doesn't. There is nowhere for them to go using a bus.

Oh, none of them are the worst. It's all personal preference. We don't spend as much as time at MK as we do the other parks now, so the BLT location is not a draw for us. I would rather be at Grand Floridian Villas. I do like the food offerings at BLT and Contemporary just not a fan of the decor there.
