Please, show me a picture of a funnel cake

funnel cakes are a PA dutch treat. They actually use a funnel to make them. My grandmother had one with a handle on it, and she would hold the funnel over the hot grease or oil and pour the batter in the funnel. while the batter was draining out the funnel into the oil, she would move the funnel around to make it like you see in the picture posted before. i have one of her old hand written cook books from about 50 or 60 years ago with her recipie in it for her version of the batter. thinking back about 45 or 50 years it didn't seam at the time to get much better than that!!!

My mom used to make homemade ones when we were kids (used my grandmother's recipe). There is just something about the homemade ones....I used to love how the house smelled when she would make them

Beaver tails are not the same thing as funnel cakes...

beaver tails are one piece of dough in a long beaver tail shape, typically with cinnamon and sugar on it.

funnel cakes, like the one posted, typically come with icing sugar, vanilla ice cream, and strawberries.

If you have never had a funnel cake, go crazy! they are GREAT!!!

Funnel cakes typically come dusted with powdered sugar. Some places offer additional toppings ~ I'm not personally a fan as the funnel cake by itself is fabulous, but go for the toppings if you must!

I used to make them homemade for my boys. I still have the funnel around somewhere. They're easy to make and good really hot with cold apple or strawberry pie filling, powdered sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. You can still buy the funnel cake mix at Wal Marts (in the flour section). At least our local Wal Marts has it (along with bignet and sopapilla mix on the same shelf). You can usually buy funnel cakes at any of the local flea markets or craft fairs too. I know the ones around here always have several stands set up. Don't know if it's nationwide, but our local Jack In the Box also sells mini funnel cakes (as well as mini churros that so many WDW visitors love). I always think it's funny when someone talks about how good funnel cakes, bignets, sopapillas, or churros are, when they are so easy to make. I guess it's the area I live in, but around here they're no big deal, but when my relatives from up north come down to visit they go crazy over them. Now if we could just get beaver tails around here. lol

You forgot to add that funnel cakes are 'beaver tails' or 'elephant ears' in Canada. I didn't know they were called funnel cakes for a very long time and many of my American friends were hesistant to try beaver tails.

Really?? I've never heard a funnel cake called either of those things before. I've actually never had either but they look wonderful!

Clearly that is not a funnel cake, but a corn dog.

I have never had one @ Disney, but other places - assume Disney's looks about the same.

Basically fried dough with powdered sugar on it.

funnel cake is actually a fried batter not dough...its basically like a pancake batter poured into the hot oil. fried dough...is bread dough stretched and cooked in oil. Just a slight clarification Both YUMMY in my opinion.

Um icing sugar is powdered sugar. So I see no problem with the bolder part.

Umm, just trying to clarify that funnel cakes don't come with ice cream and strawberries. I'm sorry if the wording regarding the sugar threw you a bit.

OK I guess traditionally funnel cakes only came with powdered sugar, but I've been eating them a long time and I would say strawberries are a very popular topping now.
